I think Nathan Lyon was indicating he hit it.
Lyon has been given out lbw to Jack Leach but he has nonchalantly called for the review.

The nicks are just not carrying. That was a genuine edge. How many is that?

The greatest game is never dull, surely Howard? But I hear you. Broad is bowling a nice line and length at 83mph and Lyon edges but it falls short of captain Root at first slip. Archer has sent one down a full 13mph faster this afternoon. A world of difference.

Howard Horner: Tell you what, Test cricket suddenly seems awfully dull when Smith / Archer aren't involved... Seems like Broad and Woakes are bowling slow medium here.

More on Steve Smith from Cricket Australia: "Prior to the blow to his neck, Steve suffered a bruised left arm. He was given a compression bandage on the field of play to reduce the swellingand he took a painkiller. The arm was then iced in the dressing room before he returned to bat following the blow to his neck. It’ll be assessed on an ongoing basis."

Four more to Cummins, a thick edge but no chance this time and it goes through the slip cordon. The tall Australian pace bowler enjoying his reprieve after being jirbled by Roy at second slip on 14.

Richard Smith: It's impossible to not to be impressed by the talent, courage, skill, attitude, and consistency of Steve Smith. Only those who have never made a stupid mistake (that is, nobody) have the right to condemn him.
And here's the dismissal. No shot, review, walk off before review has finished. And very disappointing if there were boos from the crowd.
Here's the incredible shot Smith played having resumed his innings on 80 following that horrendous blow on the neck from a 92mph delivery from Jofra Archer. Shortly you'll see his dismissal, playing no shot, for 92 from 161 balls.

Nathan Lyon, who has a highest Test score of 47, gets off the mark with a confident pull shot for a single to deep mid-wicket - should there by a deep mid-wicket to a number 10? - and repeats the stroke to retain the strike. Will he try the same when Archer returns?

It has been compelling. There is nothing better than fast bowling to get you on the edge of your seat.

Why on earth are cricketers still allowed to target the head? Australia has already suffered a death from this tactic so why?! Other sports have taken the head out of the game, like rugby and american football. Why is cricket still in the stone ages?

Fine bowling again from Woakes, 3-56 from 18 overs for him, something of an unsung hero I always think. Archer still limbering up so expect a burst before the tea interval, which is put back to 16:10 BST today.

WizardOfFire: Concussion protocol is a tricky situation... seen it plenty of times where a player in ice hockey has passed it, yet clearly looked out of sorts and then a day or so later is ruled out with one.

Smith missed the length. I think the hit on the head will have affected him.

A good over from Broad and it will be Woakes to continue in the afternoon sunshine, half an hour before tea.
