It shows the character of Steve Smith. In the controversary and the immense pressure he's been under, the strength of character to get back has to be respected. He will look back at this as a truly great moment in his career.

It was slightly bizarre cricket. Smith played a slog and a gorgeous shot and then Woakes pitched the ball up. I think you have a better chance of him making a mistake if you pitch it up more.

Smith lbw Woakes 92 (Aus 234-8)

Out. Smith is out. No-one quite knows what to make of this afternoon. He was almost at the boundary edge by the time the TV umpire's verdict came.

Smith has been given out lbw playing no shot to Woakes but reviewed it. And yet walked off.

A genuine edge this time, for once uncertain with his foot movement, but it races away through gully for four more and Smith is into the 90s.

As an England fan, I love a bit of rivalry and competition, but I can't stand the booing!? You have to take your hat off to Steve Smith, he is a class player no matter who you support.

    Dan Rose

Smith and Clarke have spent the last few Ashes asking their bowlers to hurt and scare our players. Do we all have to apologise when the boot's on the other foot?
