Short and down the leg side from Pat Cummins, and Joe Denly is all at sea. He hoicks and fends at it, his body contorting in mid air, and he somehow manages to glove it down to long leg for four.
Proper fast bowling is great, isn't it?

Spice: What I would give for us to be 30-0 just once in this series.

That Root wicket was Tim Paine's 100th dismissal in his 23rd Test which is the joint second fastest anyone has reached that landmark.

Rory Burns gets down on one knee to avoid a short ball that skims across the grille before he calmly clips a couple of runs off his legs.

Burns didn't have a clue with that short ball.
There's another two hours of play left and you wouldn't put it past England to be all out in that time.
Rory Burns yanks his head out of the way of a rising short ball from Josh Hazlewood but he makes a mess of this one, jumping and gloving the ball just short of Usman Khawaja at gully.

Sue in Luton: Root needs to stand down as captain. Firstly he is not a great captain and secondly it is having a major impact on his batting. Disappointing today.
Adam in Bristol: Absolutely shambolic. How can our batting be some abysmal? This isn't a one off it's been happening for years and we're just allowing it to happen. Major changes needed to English cricket.

I thought we might have a quiet session but no. Don't turn you back for one second.
Leave, leave, beaten outside the off stump!
How has Joe Denly not nicked that?! What an over from Pat Cummins. England are in a whole world of trouble.

Scott Wilkes: Well. That's that then.
Lee: Forget booing Smith, the fans should be booing some of our own players for some of this rubbish.
Dan: Four years preparing for the one day game, this is what you have to expect.
Eng 9-2
A bit of nip back for Pat Cummins and he strikes Joe Denly on the body, but it's too high to trouble the umpire.
My word.
Here comes the hat-trick ball, three slips and a gully waiting...

That was the perfect delivery to Joe Root first up.
I don't think Root did a lot wrong. He played the line. It is just the slope.
Good luck, Joe Denly.

It's like Australia have won the Test match they are so pleased to get Joe Root!
Root c Paine b Cummins 0 (Eng 9-2)
And out goes Joe Root! First ball!
Oh, this is such a beautiful delivery from Cummins. Root gets drawn forward, pushing outside his off stump, and a healthy edge flies through to Tim Paine, who takes a tumbling catch behind the stumps.
Pat Cummins is on a hat-trick!
In comes Joe Root...

This is the end Jofra Archer was troubling the Australia batsmen. Is the uneven bounce in play? The slope has brought the ball into Roy as well.
