Here comes Jason Roy and Rory Burns...
The Australian bowlers are amassing on the boundary edge - and Marnus Labuschagne is among them as a replacement for Steve Smith.
Sensible decision. Here's how Australia's innings ended.

Gus Fraser has just appeared from the pavilion with both a brew and a bottle of red.
Cheers, JL.
Well. That was the most remarkable session of Test cricket I've seen in some time. Steve Smith is an all-time great and while I don't know if coming back out was brave or stupid - and he was cleared by the medics to come back out - it was an astonishing innings.
An incredible session all round really. There were 29.3 overs and five wickets fell for 95. But that doesn't really explain it does it? In the afternoon sunshine, England will begin their second innings with a lead of eight as they seek an unlikely way back into the series and here's Amy Lofthouse to tell you what happens next.
An incredible afternoon for Steve Smith.

Who is Anton going to get partnered with when the new series starts next month? He is not usually very lucky is he?

We are sitting in the Allen stand and there was not one boo - only respect and a standing ovation - for a courageous innings by Steve Smith. Not sure which match those who heard booing were watching.
David (at Lords)
Broad finished with 4-65 in his 28th over, Woakes taking 3-61 from 19 overs, Archer 2-59 from 29 and Leach 1-19 from 11.

I think Australia might give a bit back here...

England lead by eight runs - it's nothing, really, but they are very much in the game. That was a brave innings from Cummins.
Cummins c Bairstow b Broad 20 (Aus 250 all out)
No, we can have tea now because the last wicket has fallen. England with a lead of eight. It was not one of Broad's finest, short and down the leg side, but it has had the desired effect, with a glove through to Bairstow.

Dr Malcolm Harvey: I still don't get this 'stop booing Steve Smith because he's amazingly skillful'. He cheated. And like Lance Armstrong, irrespective of whatever other excellence he displays, why should we forget that? Fans, and not blazers, will decide when he's served his time.
8 behind
The number 11 collects two more and the 250 is up for Australia. It will be Broad to continue, with tea at 16:50 now unless this last wicket falls. The Earl Grey is calling.

Re Simon. Cricket is a risk and if batters chose to wear protection it's their risk. Don't stop the interest in the game. Underarm bowling next?
Dave, Leeds
All this talk of targeting the head. The Aussies have been doing it for years, finally England has a bowler capable of doing it and there are people calling for it to be banned. It's part of the game.
Mike, London

Left-hander Josh Hazlewood is the last man, averaging 12 in Tests with a highest of 39. He is away with a flick off his legs for a single. Is Archer going to return before tea?
Andrew Samson
BBC Test Match Special statistician
That's Jack Leach's first Test wicket in England.
The red columns are restored and that delivery was ticking all three boxes from Leach, 1-16 in his 11th over for the slow left-armer.

There will be an extra half-hour now before tea.
Lyon lbw b Leach 6 (Aus 246-9)
Front pad first and they are giving it out. None of the traditional three red columns with the technology there, but it was clipping the top of the bails.
