Jonny always looks purposeful and these two have added 24 in five overs.

  2. 'Time will tell' for Smith on Headingleypublished at 14:46 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

Steve Smith on whether he will play at Headingley: "It’s a quick turnaround between Test matches. I’m going to be assessed over the next five or six days each day probably a couple of times a day to see how I’m feeling and progressing.

"I’m hopeful I will be available for that Test match. Certainly up to the medical staff and we’ll have conversations, but it’s certainly an area of concern, concussion, and I want to be 100% fit.

“I think I’ve got to be able to train probably a couple of days out then face fast bowling to make sure my reaction time and all that sort of stuff is in place. There’s a few tests I’ll have to tick off but I guess time will tell."

Are we going to see a few more of these this afternoon? A fine strike from the England wicketkeeper.

  4. Eng 183-5published at 61 overs

    lead by 191

Stokes tried for the Albert Trott there - do you think anyone will ever hit it over the pavilion again? Incredible follow through but no contact on this occasion though. A minimum of 60 overs left today, when will they risk the declaration?

    I'm thinking 270 in 41 overs.

There's a little girl, can't be much more than about nine months old, in her father's arms at the back of the Warner Stand. She has a jumper with '4' on the front and '6' on the back. When Bairstow hit that maximum, the dad held her in the air.

Nothing on the Ultra Edge there, so umpire Dar was quite right.

  9. 6 runs

    Eng 180-5published at 60 overs

    lead by 188

There's the intent, Bairstow hoists Lyon over the rope at long-on for the first six of the match and then unleashes the reverse sweep. Paine then thinks he has caught a Bairstow sweep but they have no reviews left. We could be in for some fun here.

  10. Smith 'hopeful' of recovery for Headingleypublished at 14:37 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

Australia batsman Steve Smith on how he felt yesterday: “Yesterday when I came off the ground, the results were normal. I passed all the tests and felt fine, felt normal, so I was allowed to go back out and bat.

"Upon discussions with the team doctor and coach as well, they were both happy and I was comfortable as well. We were all happy and I was able to go out and continue batting.”

On being ruled out of the Test: “With the tests that I’ve done and how I’ve woken up today, I think it’s the right decision. I’d obviously love to be out there trying to keep performing and try and help Australia win another Test match, but I think the right decision has been made.

"I’ll obviously be monitored very closely over the next few days with a pretty quick turnaround in between Test matches and I’m hopeful that I can make a recovery and be okay for that.”

  11. Eng 168-5published at 59 overs

The pitch looks to have slowed, I suppose it would seem slower having watched Archer yesterday, but Cummins is still up at 88mph in this over. Stokes looking to accelerate now perhaps and he races through for a second run.

  12. 'I find it a bit clastrophobic'published at 14:34 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

Steve Smith on not wearing the neck protection on his helmet: “I think I, along with a few of the other players, find it a little bit different, uncomfortable to what we’re used to. For me, I find it a bit claustrophobic when it’s on, I feel like I’m enclosed and not overly comfortable.

"It’s certainly something I need to probably have a look at and perhaps try in the nets and see if I can find a way to get comfortable with it.”

Now here's the wicket of Buttler, 10 minutes after lunch. Apologies yet again to our overseas friends that the clips are UK only, but safe to say Buttler found the fielder at fine-leg with his hook shot at a short ball from Cummins.

  14. Eng 165-5published at 58 overs

Lyon with 0-67 from his 22 overs so far.

Wickets missing, was the final piece of the jigsaw. Heading down the leg side. Amusement all round out on the field. No reviews left for Australia, England with both of theirs left

  20. Australia reviewpublished at 14:27 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

Big appeal for lbw from Lyon against Stokes here and Australia gamble on their final review. Umpire Dar has said no.
