Matthew Wade spent a little while having a conversation with the umpires after that DRS review. Lots of front foot forward defensives going on. Wade thought he’d hit that - and to be honest, so did I.

There was a clear deviation from the inside edge. We got the right decision in the end, but I'm not sure we took the right route to get there.

    Oh this is confusing.

The third umpire has seemingly overlooked the fact that Matthew Wade has smashed it into his pads and gone to ball tracking.

It's pitched outside off and is missing - so Wade survives.

The right decision by the wrong method? There's been a few of them in this series.

It looks like Wade has got a massive inside edge on this.

    Aus 100-3published at 32 overs

    Smith 36 Wade 7

Smith works a couple through the legside. Not once, not twice, three times in the over.

He's up above 700 runs for the series now. Seeming he missed a Test it's a just remarkable record.

He ends the over with a block back the pitch and then decides to have a jump and fidget outside off-stump because well, why not?

    Ooh good start from Curran!

An in-swinging yorker is well dug out by Steve Smith.

A brief survey of a group of people queuing for, er, refreshments, have been telling me how to get Steve Smith out. They ranged from the sensible - “get him in the first 20 balls outside off stump” and “Jofra bowls him something short and quick” - to “he didn’t look good against that beach ball, did he?” My final subject was Tuffers, who sighed and went “er, I’d let someone else bowl at him.” So there you go. No one knows.

Smith flicked that boundary away like he was swatting a fly.

  16. Aus 90-3published at 30 overs

Steve Smith has the last laugh though as he flicks beautifully through square leg for four more.

Bairstow has absolutely done Smith there. I like that. Smith is covered in dust.

  18. Aus 86-3published at 29.4 overs

Jonny Bairstow has absolutely done Steve Smith here.

Matthew Wade punches beautifully down the ground and as Jack Leach throws back Steve Smith brings out the full-length dive at the striker's end even though the throw is to the bowlers end. I can only imagine Bairstow was letting Smith know he was in danger as the throw came in.

Bairstow and Smith share a little chuckle.

England may fancy their chances of picking up a few quick wickets here.
