The short ball has earned that wicket. Labuschagne looks like he's a fine player but even he was pushed back by the quick bowling there. Pace bowling upsets your thinking, rhythm and takes you out of your comfort zone.

There's a huge amount of batsman error there.

    Got him! Plumb!

Marnus Labuschagne had just picked up a couple with a thick inside edge into his pads but he misses this one as he tries to work into the leg side.

It hits him on the knee roll and after consultation with Steve Smith, he trudges off.

    Key breakthrough for England.

  5. Aus 81-2published at 29 overs

Another maiden from Chris Woakes as he bowls a fifth/sixth stump line at Steve Smith.

There's only been two scoring shots in the last five overs now. England are at least locking Australia down without creating any real pressure.

We used to have 15-yard run-ups in the old Sunday League, to save time. Jofra Archer's run-up would have been perfect in that league.

  8. Aus 81-2published at 28 overs

Jofra Archer looks much more like the bowler we know he can be in this innings. Another well-directed bouncer has Marnus Labuschagne weaving out the way just in the nick of time.

    Good over from Archer.

Australia are going slowly at least. They've got a long way to go to get up to England.

Four more for Australia but in streaky fashion this time.

Jofra Archer squares Marnus Labuschagne up but he gets a thick outside edge past a diving Rory Burns at gully and away to the third man boundary.

I broke my finger when THAT ball was given as a no ball. Punched my desk. It's in a splint now

Woakes starts with a well-directed maiden. Better from the 30-year-old.

I would have bowled Sam Curran straight after lunch. He bowled really well this morning.

That's a nice touch. Joe Denly has just arrived on the field. Jos Buttler was straight up to him with a handshake, Ben Stokes with a hug.

Oh that's a snorter from Jofra Archer.

He gets one to rise off a length and it wraps Marnus Labuschagne on the wrist.

He ends up crouching on the ground and calls for the physio.

I don't know whether to be accepting or upset at the fact that we're now just resigned to the fact that Steve Smith is always to get a score.
