Jonny Bairstow is being serenaded by some merry-sounding observers from one of the corporate boxes. I'm not sure what key they're aiming for but, er, they're missing it by some way.

I think Chris Woakes has found it difficult to come on first change since the emergence of Jofra Archer.

Jofra Archer's superb opening spell ends after seven overs.

You couldn't ask from much more from your opening bowler than two wickets and five maidens in seven overs.

    Chris Woakes enters the attack.

That was a difficult opportunity, but I think it went through his fingertips.

Close! Full and wide from Sam Curran and Marnus Labuschagne chases it and edges the ball just beyond the grasp of a diving Ben Stokes at second slip.

That would've rivalled his catch to dismiss Adam Voges at Trent Bridge in 2015 if he'd got there.

Ricky Lee Everett: At some point you just wonder if England give up the ghost with Smith and just offer him singles to get him off strike and try to bowl out the other batsmen instead.

The inquest in to whether David Warner actually hit that continues.

I'm sure plenty of England fans couldn't care less, mind.

    Archer 7-5-7-2

Oooft. Jofra Archer gets one to cut back sharply, turn Marnus Labuschagne inside out and just about miss the inside edge as Jonny Bairstow makes a fine one-handed catch behind.

Another superb maiden from Archer. He's been brilliant in this spell.

Re the spike on Ultraedge for ML. One thing that has always baffled me is that, with the speed that the review system can work, why isn't every single appeal checked by the third umpire? If there is a chance that the on field decision is wrong, pause the next ball to have a longer look. Simple?

Sam, angering umpires everywhere, in Norwich.

    A truly maddening genius.

Steve Smith plays French cricket, looking a bit uncertain as he defends Sam Curran down the pitch.

Next ball, he square drives impeccably for four.

Ooooh. Steve Smith plays and misses at one angled across. That was close to the outside edge.

In the 21st century Steve Smith has the highest discrepancy between right-arm and left-arm bowling. He averages 74 against right-arm bowlers and 48 against left-arm.

Smith and Labuschagne are merging into one, superhuman batsman. I swear Labuschagne has got more Smith-like as the series has gone on. The lightsaber leaves, the fidgeting at the crease, the furious self-admonishment when he misses a shot. One Smith was bad enough, but two...?

  19. Aus 29-2published at 12 overs

Jofra Archer pushes it too full and Steve Smith punches through the covers.

But he doesn't get four because Jack Leach chases it down and pulls it back inside the rope to save a run.

    Cue big applause.

Hello. Sky have just shown a replay of a Stuart Broad delivery that Marnus Labuschagne chased down the leg side earlier.

There was a strangled appeal but not much interest.

However, UltraEdge showed a spike at one stage as the ball passed the bat and it could have been overturned on review.

    Hmmmmm.
