James: As a point of correction there is NO way Steve Smith had the flu yesterday! A viral upper respiratory tract infection, a cold, the snuffles, so called 'man flu' if you like are all possible. But not proper flu! You don't get out of bed with flu, you are more likely to die! We all get colds and have to go to work so shame on Steve Smith using this as an excuse for finally looking human on 22 yards!

As Tuffers says, for all of the praise of Cummins, Burns has played this short stuff really well this morning. Half an hour gone and England haven't lost a wicket.

Pat Cummins is a warhorse. That was an absolute snorter. But Rory Burns has played it well.
I think we all need to start having what Pat Cummins has for breakfast. He's been in England since May, day after day bowling at 90mph. He whistles another past Rory Burns' throat. He's remarkable.
Textbook.

Marcus Harris split the webbing in his left hand dropping that catch last night. Seven stitches for the poor chap.
Burns 12, Denly 7
Yes, John. You absolutely are.

Joe Denly is having a bit of a grin after being beaten twice in a row by Hazlewood. The bowler is not seeing the funny side.

It seems Pat Cummins didn't like that boundary and he bangs a bouncer in to Burns. The England opener sways. Good batting.

Glorious! A little checked drive punched through the covers for four. Lovely.
Oh, Rory. That is beautiful. This is probably as pretty as you are going to get from a man with a funny-looking technique like Burns. He rocks forward and crunches a drive through extra over. The ball reaches the boundary in a flash.

Martin Smith: Too many commentators being positive about England’s batting after one over today. Can we keep this to a minimum until England are 200-1, please?
The crowd sounds settled in for the long haul. There's some polite applause as Tim Paine leaps down the leg side to take a wayward bouncer from Cummins. Can England do the job on the pitch?

Marcus Harris will not field today after having seven stitches to split webbing in his hand, which he injured when he dropped that late chance off Joe Denly yesterday evening. He is expected to bat.
We have a Marcus Harris update...
