England were calm and disciplined with the bat and I think they have done exactly the same with the ball.

  2. Ban 74-2published at 14 overs

    Target 387

Wood again and Shakib flicks him away off his pads for his third four, in addition to that effortless six we have just seen.

  3. Shakib flicks Archer for sixpublished at 15:51 British Summer Time 8 June 2019

The advantage of Archer's pace when it's down the leg side and Shakib scores the first six of the Bangladesh innings.

Bangladesh only managed to score off seven deliveries in Jofra Archer's first five overs. He bowled 23 dots.

  5. Ban 68-2published at 13 overs

    Shakib 38, Mushfiqur 2

Bit of a way to go for that red worm to catch England's blue one. With the field well spread there are ample opportunities for Bangladesh to push singles from Plunkett, but in terms of winning this match, their requirement is already 8.62 per over.

When someone is bowling 90mph the last thing you'd want to do I'd have thought is make him three yards quicker by walking down the wicket.

That's an ugly smear from Tamim. I am not sure why he did that.

    Tamim c Morgan b Wood 18 (Ban 63-2)

Tamim decides to charge down the wicket and succeeds only in spooning it tamely to cover.

  9. Ban 62-1published at 11.4 overs

Durham dynamo Mark Wood is the fourth England bowler used. He has abandoned that long-jumper style spring at the start of his run-up but he is already up at 93mph. Shakib is holding firm and steers a wide one skilfully for his second boundary.

  11. Ban 55-1published at 11 overs

    Target 387

England had just begun to motor by the end of the first powerplay and were 67-0 after 10, but the Bangladesh fifty comes up for the loss of only one wicket with a single as Liam Plunkett comes into the attack and the bearded paceman gets the radar wrong early on with successive leg side wides. Some tuneful Welsh singing comes over the effects microphones, followed by some forthright exclamation elsewhere.

That ball was a little more predictable than the previous two.

It is not safe to be a duck on the river today. I wonder if there is a mallard protection society.

  13. 6 runs

    Ban 48-1published at 10 overs

    Tamim 16, Shakib 26

Shakib, who was involved in a run-out with Mushfiqur the other day, has a mix-up with Tamim but there is no casualty. Archer sends down a short one that flies off Tamim's back for four leg byes. A testing spell for the left-handers, but the advantage is that the ball only needs to be helped on its way and Shakib flicks one over fine leg and out of the ground. Is someone collecting all these lost balls from the river?

I'm disappointed Moeen isn't playing - they've built their game around having two spinners bowling 20 overs in the middle period.

Woakes is a steadier pace of course, in the low 80's mph, but he restricts the batsmen to a handful of singles.

Jofra Archer has now bowled three maidens at this World Cup - no bowler has logged more thus far.

Kumaran: Wicketkeeping for England with Wood and Archer bowling from opposite is going to really test the fitness of our wicketkeepers. They are going to have jog quite far between each end in between overs.

  19. Ban 33-1published at 8 overs

    Tamim 13, Shakib 18

Shakib uses the pace of Archer to pick up three through the covers, the Sussex all-rounder consistently above 90mph throughout his opening four overs 1-7.

  20. Tamim gets Bangladesh's first boundarypublished at 15:22 British Summer Time 8 June 2019

Let's have a look at the first Bangladesh boundary. England hit 28 fours and 14 sixes in their 386-6, their highest World Cup total, the highest ODI score at Cardiff and the highest of the tournament so far.
