The captains are out in the centre now. England put Pakistan in last time and that didn't work out, so what's Eoin Morgan going to do today?

  4. England at Cardiffpublished at 09:59 British Summer Time 8 June 2019

This is England's 14th ODI at Cardiff, three of which have been lost to the weather. They have won seven of the 10 completed matches, losing to Pakistan twice and also India. last summer against an admittedly under-strength Australian team they posted 342-8, with Jason Roy making 120 from 108 balls and Jos Buttler adding an unbeaten 91. Speaking of Roy - and I know we are not supposed to do "dedi's" - but I'd like to wish my father-in-law Roy a very happy birthday.

  6. Landmark aheadpublished at 09:55 British Summer Time 8 June 2019

The next win in the competition will be the 400th in World Cups, which one would imagine would be England or Bangladesh, unless it is a very rapid result between New Zealand and Afghanistan at Taunton this afternoon.

  7. The state of playpublished at 09:53 British Summer Time 8 June 2019

Here's how we stand going into today's two matches then, with Afghanistan against leaders New Zealand from Taunton to come later at 13:30 BST. A win would take either England or Bangladesh into the coveted top four, but much to get through before the semi-finalists are known, with each team playing nine matches in the round-robin format.

  8. Pakistan-Sri Lanka washed outpublished at 09:50 British Summer Time 8 June 2019

No play at all at Bristol yesterday, there was a heck of a lot of rain during the morning but it was one of those unfortunate scenarios where the match was called off during a spell of bright sunshine at 15:45 BST. It was only the third total washout in the history of the World Cup - and they have not all been in England, one came in Australia in 2015.

  9. Weather set fairpublished at 09:48 British Summer Time 8 June 2019

There are some fair weather clouds being pushed across the ground on a stiff breeze but mercifully it is expected to stay dry today. All manner of activity on the outfield with the final preparations being applied by both players and groundstaff. I can see a practice net on one of the side wickets being put to good use but also a football being kicked around, so hopefully no injuries will occur.
