Anyway, that's it for this live text. A very frustrating day.

A short report of proceedings is here.

    The scorecard is here.

    The table is here.

We'll be back with live coverage of Bangladesh against Sri Lanka in Bristol tomorrow from 09:55 BST.

See you then. For now, farewell.

West Indies captain Jason Holder: “We had a really good start again with the ball. Sheldon was excellent again with the new ball. It was unfortunate that the weather came.

“So far we have been getting new-ball wickets and it has been going for us. It is now a matter of our bowlers to keep doing what they are doing. We don’t mind giving up runs if you are going to get wickets.”

On the fitness of Andre Russell, who was ruled out of today's game: “We are hoping he pulls up alright. I guess it is a blessing this game is over and we can look forward to the game against England.”

South Africa captain Faf du Plessis: "Very disappointing but you can’t control the weather. It was important for us today to not lose too many wickets in the first hour but they bowled well, that’s what makes them dangerous as a team. We didn’t get close to a game.

"Everyone should be fit for the next game. We are in a bad position but it’s our own fault, we haven’t played our best cricket so far and we need a solid performance to get the team’s confidence up."

So South Africa move on to face Afghanistan at Cardiff on Saturday at 13:30 BST.

West Indies play England, again in Southampton, on Friday at 10:30 BST.

Let's hope the weather improves on the south coast this week.

At the other end, it was another tough start for South Africa, with the out-of-form Hashim Amla looping an edge to Chris Gayle at first slip before Aiden Markram tickled it to keeper Shai Hope down the leg side.

Sheldon Cottrell claimed both wickets, so at least we got to see his salute twice today.

Here are the highlights from the brief action we did get.

South Africa opener Quinton de Kock overturned a poor umpiring decision after being given out caught behind.

And then started to get into his stride, cutting for four before the rain came.

That does give South Africa their first point of the tournament after three straight losses.

But missing out on the chance to win here also makes it harder to qualify - they will need to win all five of their remaining matches and need results elsewhere to go their way. Highly unlikely.

West Indies are now on three points after three matches in fifth in the table.

    Breaking

    And that, finally, is that.

Sadly the rain never really went away, apart from that brief spell of false hope about an hour ago.

It means that only 7.3 overs were possible today, with South Africa on 29-2 when the rain stopped play at 11:00 BST.

Both South Africa and West Indies take one point from the match.

Play needs to get back under way by 16:55 BST.

They will have to make a final decision by about 16:25 BST.

It could even be called off before that.

Umpires Rod Tucker and Paul Wilson are back out there under their umbrellas to chat to the groundsman.

Tucker has just looked at his watch for about the 700th time.

It's been desperate today. Some fans are staying, hoping for a little bit of window. There were cheers when the hover cover came off but it's glum again now.

The outer covers are also coming back on.

Little to no chance of this match restarting, I reckon.

The rain returned at pretty much the exact time the umpires went out to the middle to inspect the pitch.

Chris Gayle, at least, is providing the fans some entertainment now.

He's found a Slash top hat from somewhere, has stuck it on top of his beanie and is posing for photographs at the back of one of the stands.

The umpires are now walking around under their umbrellas.

And the hover cover is back on the pitch.

    Not looking good.

Oh no. It looks like it's spitting again.

Paul Wilson is putting up his umbrella.

Chris Gayle is smiling and waving on the balcony.
