They'll need to work to mop up the water sliding off the surface of the covers though.
The umpires are getting a tour of the covers, prodding and pushing down at the outfield near the edges of the sheets to test how sodden it is.
The umpires are out on the pitch having a word with the groundsman.
The umbrellas are down, but the looks on the faces are not hopeful.
This bright spell might not last long...

It is indeed longing much brighter above the Hampshire Bowl at the moment.

Spotting a pattern here? The 14:00 BST update is that there will be another update at 15:00 BST.
Yes, it's still raining, despite getting a bit brighter in Southampton.
Play needs to be under way by around 17:00 BST in order to fit in the minimum-required 20-over-per-side match.
It's looking lighter in Southampton, but still drizzling.
It actually seemed to stop raining for a while and the groundstaff have been out there clearing water from the surface of the covers.
But the rain soon returned again.

"The World Cup and Ashes in this country in the same summer. What an amazing carnival of cricket we're going to have. Nothing could ruin this!" British weather: "Hold my beer".
Matt in a wet Northampton
It's still raining.
It got noticeably lighter for a bit about 20 minutes ago but is looking a bit darker overhead again now.
Several hardcore fans are still in the uncovered sections, huddling under umbrellas.
More of the same I'm afraid - another hour-long wait until next update at 14:00 BST.

It has also got a lot darker over the past half hour, with plenty more gloom on the horizon.
There will be a further update at 13:00 BST. Check back in with us then.
And with that horrible news about the incoming rain, we'll pause this live text until we get an update in about half an hour.
Start your anti-rain dances now.
In a bit.

But South Africa are already in trouble at 29-2, with both wickets falling to Sheldon Cottrell.
First, he had Hashim Amla looping a catch to Chris Gayle at first slip...
And then Aiden Markram tickled it to be caught by wicketkeeper Shai Hope down the leg side...
Quinton de Kock was given out, caught behind, off the seventh ball of the match.
But the South Africa opener rightly reviewed straight away, DRS showing it hit his arm, nowhere near the bat.
Not the best umpiring decision you'll ever see...
And De Kock had started to get into his stride before the rain, smacking this superb cut shot for four...
Let's have a look at the highlights so far...
This is going to be my excuse when I get out now - "Not my fault, it's literally impossible to bat."
