The famous salute comes out! Hashim Amla's bad run of form continues.
Amla c Gayle b Cottrell 6 (SA 11-1)
Hashim Amla is in horrid nick and becomes Salutin' Sheldon's latest victim.
Cottrell angles it across the right-hander as Amla tries to force it off the back foot and can only get a loopy edge off the gloves to Chris Gayle at a wide first slip.
An easy grab though Gayle needed to use his chest to gather it in. Still, he does and Cottrell can perform his trademark salute. A bit of added pace and bounce did for Amla there.
South Africa already in a spot of bother.
A slow outfield in these damp conditions and it denies Quinton de Kock the first boundary of the day as he pulls it through mid-wicket.
Carlos Brathwaite gives chase and uses all of his 6ft 4in frame to drag the ball back. Excellent commitment and that saves a run.
Ah. The next ball is wide and Hashim Amla does pick up the first boundary of the day, slicing a drive expertly through point. Lovely stroke.
Great start by Kemar Roach, conceding just one single from the over.

It was a good delivery first up, De Kock immediately referred it, he was positive. The umpire didn't look sure, and if you're not sure you can't give it.
A very poor decision.
Oh dear. Umpire Paul Wilson has had a bit of a shocker here.
It missed the bat by miles and deflected off Quinton de Kock's arm.
Still a good catch by Shai Hope but certainly not out. An easy decision to overturn.
And has Kemar Roach got Quinton de Kock caught behind with his very first ball?!
An excellent diving catch by keeper Shai Hope, Windies appeal and it's finally given.
De Kock reviews straight away though...
Kemar Roach, making his first appearance in this World Cup, will share the new ball with Sheldon Cottrell...

It's overcast, it's heavy. It feels like there is rain in the air.
De Kock 1, Amla 2
Quinton de Kock tries a late cut to third man and misses, the ball just evading the outside edge.
Straighter from Sheldon Cottrell and De Kock can tap it to the leg side for a single to get off the mark.
Hashim Amla punches through the covers off his first ball and picks up two.
Left-armer to left-hander. Length outside off and left alone.
Sheldon Cottrell will open the bowling.
Quinton de Kock to face first.
Let's try and get plenty of play in before the rain arrives.
Here we go...

The West Indian bowlers will enjoy these conditions - maybe they can get some movement off the pitch and through the air as well.

AB de Villiers - and whether he should have been recalled or not - was a distraction going into the World Cup, some of the players will have been distracted but now it is out it's probably a good thing.
They have dealt with it and can hopefully move on. Beware the wounded bear - and South Africa certainly are that.

Jason Holder is leading his side in the pre-match huddle at the Hampshire Bowl.
All smiles as they put their hands in the middle and realise Sheldon Cottrell has already walked off.
"Sheldon! Get back here!" The fast bowler duly jogs back and joins in.
South Africa openers Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock stride out to the middle.

Andre Russell bowled too much against Australia and there was always going to be a question mark there. That's a disappointment.
Dear Jason,
Get through these overs quickly!

As a South African fan living in the UK, I have copped some stick the last week! This is not, however, a team choking. We just don't have the explosive players available. All teams go through cycles. Even with a fit Steyn and an in-form Amla, we would still be a few players short of a side that will challenge.

It's cloudy in Southampton but no one has told Sheldon Cottrell.
A ski goggle-esque pair of shades on everyone's favourite saluting left-armer.
The anthems are under way...
