That was so smooth and beautifully played. He's playing a brilliant hand here.

    Sohail 28 off 15 balls

Haris Sohail is on one today.

A glorious square drive bisects the fielders and zips away to the fence.

Babar is a good-looking player - he's powerful down the ground, excellent against spin and pace. All he needs to do now is to convert. He needs a 100 here.

  4. 50 runs

50 for Babarpublished at 35.1 overs

Babar Azam drives out to deep cover for a comfortable single that takes him to a fine 50.

Can he kick on from here and help Pakistan reach 300 at least?

Here are the strike rates of those three batsmen in this World Cup so far...

    Joe Root - 92.77

    Babar Azam - 85.59

    Kane Williamson - 80.56

Not sure it's fair to put Root in that bracket and I don't think top of the table New Zealand are too concerned with Williamson.

Babar Azam, Root and Williamson are all good players, but I think they put unfair pressure on the rest of their team to sacrifice and go all out attack. It is no huge surprise their averages are so high...they all play at a strike-rate of 70-90. Which is always under par for what the team needs. So everyone else had to be the aggressor. I suspect De Grandhomme's average would be far better if he didn't have to up the rate every game due to Williamson's slow "platform".

This is a critical stage of the game - if Pakistan are allowed to hit out freely it could be curtains for South Africa.

Pakistan have hit the nitrous - 13 from the over.

Kagiso Rabada goes round the wicket, bangs it in short and Haris Sohail backs away to carve an almighty uppercut away for six.

    Brilliant strike.

Lovely stuff. Haris Sohail gets a full ball and caresses it down the ground for four.

  13. Pak 171-3published at 34 overs

Babar Azam gets one on his pads and deftly flicks it round the corner. Kagiso Rabada tries to cut it off on the angle, can't and has to give chase, the ball teasing him all the way into the rope.

The poor lad is absolutely blowing now and has to bowl the next over.

That's a big over for Pakistan off Markram - nine from it.

  14. Markram gets Hafeez lbwpublished at 13:00 British Summer Time 23 June 2019

Letting Aiden Markram wheel through quick overs, not conceding many runs and picking up a wicket was not part of Pakistan's plan...

You can see in Rabada's body language he's lacking intensity. I think he's coming back from an injury in this tournament and he might be feeling that.

And they're roaring again now! Kagiso Rabada pushes it full with a bit of width and Haris Sohail punches it through the covers for four.

There's just been a big roar from the crowd, because they saw Waqar Younis on the big screen. There's a lot of Pakistan fans in today.

Hmm. Cricket is a game of such fine margins. Had Moeen Ali hit it a bit cleaner and cleared the rope, he'd have been a hero.

I think England did go into their shell. I also think that trying to play expansively on that slow pitch was very tough and fraught with danger.

    This fence is very comfortable.

A much better over for Pakistan - seven from it.

    Time for drinks.
