Marcus Stoinis had no idea how to play that. Totally deceived.

  2. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 28 overs

    Stoinis lbw b Rashid 0 (Aus 118-5)

Got him! Adil Rashid has made Marcus Stoinis look like an amateur. Two wickets in the over for England's leg-spinner.

It's the wrong 'un from Rashid and Stoinis didn't have a clue. He played all around it and is trapped in front.

His miserable World Cup with the bat continues.

  3. 50 runs

50 for Smithpublished at 27.4 overs

Steve Smith plods on to reach his fifty. This won't be the last one we see him get this summer.

The applause is louder than a smattering of boos.

That was not needed. This partnership had England changing up their bowlers, trying to find an answer. He should've just knocked that away for one or two and carried on.

Marcus Stoinis is the new batsman. Australia are holding back Glenn Maxwell.

That came out of the blue. Carey had played a controlled innings.

He didn't quite get enough of it and it was a simple catch. A big breakthrough for England. Carey got a bit ambitious there.

  8. wicket

    Carey c sub (Vince) b Rashid 46 (Aus 117-4)

Listen to that roar! It's a poor shot out of nowhere from Alex Carey.

He tries to take on the long boundary over mid-wicket but picks out the fielder on the rope. Adil Rashid makes the breakthrough and it is James Vince with the catch.

Carey knew the moment he had hit it he was in trouble. A big wicket.

  9. Aus 116-3published at 27 overs

    Smith 48, Carey 46

The crowd applauds Ben Stokes as he finishes the over with three dots. You'd surely still rather be in England's position now.

I wonder whether Jofra Archer will come back soon for some short stuff, as Lucy suggests.

Carey has seemed untroubled by everything except the one ball that hit his helmet. Why have we not peppered him with short balls since? Maybe a bit mean but this is a World Cup semi final against Australia!

That could have been the mistake Fred is after! Alex Carey swishes at a wider ball from Ben Stokes. No edge.

Fred Corbett: Dear England fans: Carey has never hit a List-A Century ever, and Smith hasn’t scored above 73 this World Cup. Even though these two are going well, they’re bound to make a mistake at some point. Besides, they are still 100-odd for 3, which is pretty shoddy.

There's the hundred partnership. It has come in good time.

Did I say 'you've just dropped the World Cup' to Herschelle Gibbs? Well, it was something like that. Let's not ruin a good story!

  16. Aus 113-3published at 26 overs

    Smith 47, Carey 44

I fear I've seen Australia do this before in this World Cup. They were 79-5 v West Indies and won. They were 92-5 against New Zealand and won.

Alex Carey looks a quality player. He looks like Mike Hussey. Pat Cummins will have a real impact with the ball today. If there is anything in the pitch he will get the most out of it.

  18. Aus 109-3published at 25.3 overs

Alex Carey looks like he's been in a warzone with blood starting to seep through the bandage around his face. He crunches away a bruising reverse sweep to turn the pain onto Adil Rashid. That rattled to the boundary.

  19. Aus 105-3published at 25.2 overs

Adil Rashid continues. First up is a wide and then a single to Steve Smith. Score predictor is now at 270.

Thanks Tom. It was never going to be straightforward, was it? I think I said that in the last England game too. We know by now they never do things the easy way.

    This partnership is building.
