  1. Aus 103-3published at 25 overs

    Carey 38, Smith 44

The hundred comes up with a wide down the leg side, England's 'back-up' bowlers haven't matched the class of Woakes and Archer first up.

Still, England would have settled for this at the halfway point, I'm sure. Especially as the Aussies won the toss.

Here for the next 25 overs is Matt Henry...

I think 250 is a very good score in a World Cup semi-final.

Sam Osborne: This is tense now, I'm becoming obsessive about run rate. They could get to 240/250+ if we don't start getting wickets in a hurry. How early is too early for desk beers?

  4. Aus 99-3published at 12:20 British Summer Time 11 July 2019

That flurry of early England wickets feels a while ago now doesn't it?

If you're just tuning in over a tuna and cucumber sandwich, here's the key moments so far...

  5. Aus 98-3published at 24 overs

    Carey 37, Smith 42

Do any Americans play cricket? Our sometime colleague Tim Abraham will know.

Steve Smith is closing in on 50, working singles masterfully from Rashid.

In the Hollies Stand, the Barmy Army stand and sing for the first time today. Jonny Bairstow, patrolling the boundary in front of them, claps along. Next to the Barmies is the bizarre sight of an American flag being waved.

This looks to be an excellent pitch. The early moisture helped the new ball but it's playing nicely now.

Steve Smith would be a terrible poker player.

  9. Aus 92-3published at 23 overs

Steve Smith is livid with himself for missing out but that's wonderful fielding from Ben Stokes, Smith cuts hard and thinks he has four but Stokes parries it brilliantly.

Wasn't far away from a catch, actually.

Of all of the Australia batsman, Carey has started the best. He has looked the most composed. Everything has hit the middle of his bat.

  11. Aus 91-3published at 22.3 overs

Shot! These two are officially cooking on gas now, and England may be on the menu. Alex Carey just leans on to a full ball from Liam Plunkett and crunches him through the covers.

Plunkett was punched for four first up, too.

  12. Aus 87-3published at 22 overs

    Carey 31, Smith 37

Alex Carey looks a very, very good player. A good call to promote him to number five as he plays a very fine sweep off Adil Rashid as Jason Roy then misfields.

Need a wicket to calm the nerves. Really don't want if we can help it to chase 240-250, Sri Lanka and India-NZ all over again!!

Midway through that over the England crowd came to life. Third pint kicking in?

The songs and chants are out now as that sky looks more and more overcast.

It's been an innings of two halves so far, you can see how Australia have (relatively) piled on the runs in recent overs.

In the power play today 73% of Woakes' deliveries where on a length, and 53% of Archer's were also on a length, in the group stage clash at Lord's those figures were just 47% and 27% respectively.

  19. Aus 78-3published at 20 overs

    Carey 25, Smith 34

Alex Carey drives through the covers, in the air, a gasp of breath in the crowd but that was always safe enough and a nicely-timed four...

Alex Carey is an exceptional player of spin. He played Adil very well in a game in Brisbane a few years ago.

He seems to pick him out of the hand very easily.
