Matt Brown: Looks like my first born will be called Liam Plunkett Brown!!!

James: I’ve said this a lot in the World Cup, but Liam Plunkett is invaluable. Removes top notch batsmen in the middle overs with startling regularity. Unbelievable

  2. NZ 118-3published at 27 overs

Tom Latham defends his first ball.

England have two new batsmen in. Can they strike again and prevent a partnership building?

What a performance this has been from Plunkett. First Williamson and now Nicholls, who was set.

    Nicholls b Plunkett 55 (NZ 118-3)

Liam Plunkett HAS done it again!

He sends down another fine cross-seam delivery on a length, drawing Henry Nicholls into the drive and it's a loose shot, the ball deflecting off the inside edge into the timbers as the zing bails go flying.

After a stop-start career in which he has been in and out of favour at county and international level, had to remodel his action and faced tough off the field issues, Plunkett has two massive wickets in the World Cup final.

    What a story.

  5. NZ 117-2published at 26.3 overs

Nicholls drives just beyond the outstretched hand of cover and Stokes runs round to pull it up inside the rope, keeping it to three. Stokes didn't look at full pelt there.

Can Liam Plunkett do it again?

He continues into his sixth over, the well set Henry Nicholls on strike.

    Andy Zaltzman
    Test Match Special statistician

Liam Plunkett has only taken nine wickets at his tournament but every single batsman has been a top-five player. Eight of those wickets, the batsman has been on 30 or more.

He gets out good players, who are well set.

James Whetlor: Seems everyone, including Kane Williamson, underrates Liam Plunkett.

Abinash: The best thing about England in this tournament is that whenever the other teams seem to gain some momentum and threaten to run away with the match, they have broken back.

  9. NZ 114-2published at 26 overs

Ross Taylor and Henry Nicholls both skip down the pitch but both can only pick up singles off Adil Rashid.

Five of them from the over.

There is a lot on Nicholls' shoulders. He has done well as a re-jigged middle-order player.

  12. 50 runs

50 for Nichollspublished at 25.1 overs

Having withstood some heavy early pressure and an lbw decision that I'll never know how it wasn't out, that's a fine 50 from Henry Nicholls.

A vital knock for his side with Martin Guptill and Kane Williamson not having been able to kick on today.

Superb work from Liam Plunkett, conceding just one from the over.

Can England keep this up and put the squeeze on?

  16. NZ 108-2published at 24 overs

    Nicholls 48, Taylor 3

Ross Taylor gets off the mark by tapping a googly out to square leg for a single.

Henry Nicholls doesn't pick the wrong 'un and edges through the vacant slip region for one.

Not much turn at all in the pitch for Adil Rashid, who is having to rely on his variations to keep it tight.

That’s livened things up in the stands... “how’s the umpire not heard that?!” says one indignant bloke to me, while another turns to his mate and says “he’s Aussie, isn’t he, he wouldn’t walk.” I had to correct him...

And some of you were doubting Liam Plunkett in the middle overs.

Here comes Ross Taylor. He's been a bit scratchy in this tournament but has still found a way to eke out runs in key moments.

It just held its line and went down the slope a little. New Zealand were just manipulating the ball around. They were looking quite comfortable in the last few overs. Now that changes. Big wicket.
