Well, all the county cricket is now done and dusted for the day.

So that's it from us until the County Championship live text service resumes at 10:30 tomorrow morning.

Thanks for joining us, amidst so many other attractions.

We enjoyed having your company, Both of you.

  2. Close of play at Cardiffpublished at 18:53 British Summer Time 14 July 2019

    Middlesex 384 & 189-5, Glamorgan 171

Close at Cardiff with Middlesex miles ahead in their second innings having chosen not to enforce the follow-on. They lead Glamorgan by 402 runs.

  3. Stumps at Chesterfieldpublished at 18:32 British Summer Time 14 July 2019

    Northants 342, Derbyshire 34-1

Derbyshire get to the close for the loss of only one wicket. Wayne Madsen and Billy Godleman will resume in the morning with their side still 308 runs adrift.

  4. Close of play at Southamptonpublished at 18:30 British Summer Time 14 July 2019

    Hampshire 409-9 dec, Kent 319-3

Joe Denly finishes on 137, Heino Kuhn on 28 - and Kent within 90 runs of the Hampshire first-innings total.

If they can accumulate again tomorrow and build a lead, who knows, maybe this match may have a positive outcome after all.

But, with only 12 wickets gone in the first two days, this is clearly not a bowler friendly surface.

  5. Close of play at Old Traffordpublished at 18:27 British Summer Time 14 July 2019

    Sussex 127 & 15-0, Lancashire 494-6 dec

Phil Salt and Varun Chopra survive four overs to close on 15-0 but Sussex are still right up against it. They trail Lancs by 352 runs after the home side's superb batting effort led by a ton from captain Dane Vilas.

  8. Close of play at Canterburypublished at 18:11 British Summer Time 14 July 2019

Australian XI 362-4 v England Lions

A run-filled day for the Aussies against England Lions at Canterbury.

Former Yorkshire and Worcestershire batsman Travis Head ended the day unbeaten on 130, after sharing a 219-run stand with Matthew Wade, who also got to three figures.

The former Warwickshire T20 wicketkeeper was eventually out for 114. But Mitchell Marsh (24) helped Head add a further 42 before the close.

  9. Close of play at Chelmsfordpublished at 18:05 British Summer Time 14 July 2019

    Essex 245 & 73-1, Warwickshire 161

Essex will go into day three with a lead of 157 runs - and Sir Alastair Cook at the crease on 34, alongside nightwatchman Matt Quinn, who came in following the late loss of Nick Browne.

With leaders Somerset labouring against Yorkshire at Headingley, is this going to be the week when the County Championship title race turns?

Essex look well on course for a seventh win in eight games, while Somerset will do well to avoid defeat against Yorkshire, never mind win.

  10. Close at Trent Bridgepublished at 18:04 British Summer Time 14 July 2019

    Surrey 240 & 184-7, Nottinghamshire 116

    Dave Bracegirdle
    BBC Radio Nottingham commentator

Career-best figures of 8-61 from Amar Virdi has put Surrey into a near-impregnable position against Nottinghamshire at the halfway stage of what is his first Championship match of the summer.

Surrey reached the close with a lead of 308, Jamie Smith having made 57. Notts spinner Ravi Ashwin, who took 6-69 in the first innings, has backed it up with figures of 4-64.

But Jordan Clark’s unbroken partnership of 54 with Gareth Batty has given Surrey a huge advantage.

WICKET Browne lbw b Rhodes 38published at 17:55 British Summer Time 14 July 2019

    Essex 245 & 72-1, Warwickshire 161

After his surprise first-innings five-wicket haul, Will Rhodes is back in the game again.

With only his second ball, he bags another victim, Nick Browne.

Essex send in a nightwatchman, Matt Quinn.

Maybe Rhodes really does have a future as a proper all-rounder.

As he said at close of play last night, he just likes to contribute, especially when he has failed with the bat, as he did earlier.

  12. wicket

    WICKET Bell-Drummond b Edwards 94published at 17:46 British Summer Time 14 July 2019

    Hampshire 409-9 dec, Kent 268-3

Great delivery from Fidel Edwards to get rid of Daniel Bell-Drummond, just six short of a century.

In the 64th over with the old ball, he finds sufficient rip off a flat surface to remove the Kent man's off stump.

Kent captain Heino Kuhn is the next man in.

  13. wicket

WICKET Bartlett c Patterson b Olivier 4published at 17:36 British Summer Time 14 July 2019

    Yorkshire 520, Somerset 49-4

That's a second wicket for Duanne Olivier and it's fair to say Somerset are finding this Headingley wicket a lot more difficult to bat on than Yorkshire did.

After the hosts made 520, George Bartlett's chip to mid-on fielder Steve Patterson puts Somerset 49-4 and in a whole lot of bother.

  14. wicket

WICKET Wade lbw b S Curran 114published at 17:35 British Summer Time 14 July 2019

Australian XI 320-4 v England Lions

England Lions get a fourth wicket at Canterbury, as Surrey's Sam Curran breaks the 219-run stand between former Yorkshire and Worcestershire batsman Travis Head and ex-Warwickshire T20 wicketkeeper Matthew Wade.

Mitchell Marsh is the new man in.

  15. wicket

WICKET Banton c Tattersall b Maharaj 5published at 17:23 British Summer Time 14 July 2019

    Yorkshire 520, Somerset 36-3

Kesh Maharaj gets a wicket in his first over for Yorkshire as the South Africa spinner has Tom Banton caught behind.

Somerset really are in deep trouble here.

Former Warwickshire T20 wicketkeeper Matthew Wade follows Travis Head to his century at Canterbury.

Ex-Yorkshire and Worcestershire batsman Head is on 113.

The pair have so far put on 206 for the fourth wicket.

Sussex seamer Ollie Robinson, Surrey's Sam Curran and Somerset spinner Jack Leach are all wicketless and have gone for more than four an over.

  18. for Ravi Ashwinpublished at 17:09 British Summer Time 14 July 2019

    Surrey 240 & 130-7, Nottinghamshire 116

Joe Clarke takes a sharp catch at short-leg to get rid of his brother by name only Rikki.

Ravi Ashwin has a 10-for in the match. That's his fourth in this innings.

  19. wicket

WICKET Azhar c Lyth b Olivier 4published at 17:09 British Summer Time 14 July 2019

    Yorkshire 520, Somerset 31-2

Azhar Ali edges Duanne Olivier to second slip and Somerset are further in the mire.

Two down and 489 runs adrift.

    That's a lot.

  20. 100 runs

Century for Joe Denlypublished at 17:06 British Summer Time 14 July 2019

    Hampshire 409-9 dec, Kent 221-2

A second century in four Championship games for Joe Denly.

    15 fours. 144 balls.

His previous best was 167* against Notts at Tunbridge Wells last month.

It certainly looks like he is in form as the selectors get ready to sit down and talk about a Test team to face Australia at Edgbaston on 1 August.

He is after all a current member of the England Test team, having played in the second and third Tests against the West Indies.

He made his first Test half-century, a second-innings 69, in the third Test in the Caribbean in February.
