DURHAM 212 ALL OUTpublished at 14:08 British Summer Time 14 July 2019

    Durham 212 v Worcestershire

Ed Barnard polishes off the Durham innings by having Nathan Rimmington caught behind for two and then dismissing Chris Rushworth lbw first ball.

It means Ben Raine is stranded 78 not out.

Kyle Abbott coming in at full steam after lunch following a change of ends and he nips one back to have fellow South African Sean Dickson trapped LBW.

WICKET Ashwin c Smith b Virdi 27published at 14:03 British Summer Time 14 July 2019

    Nottinghamshire 109-8, Surrey 240

Smart work down the legside from Surrey keeper Jamie Smith to get rid of Ravi Ashwin.

He takes a swipe at a poor Amar Virdi ball and bottom edges it. Smith catches it almost on the floor. Superb.

That is six wickets for the spinner now.

WICKET Yates lbw b Harmer 32published at 13:55 British Summer Time 14 July 2019

    Essex 245, Warwickshire 62-5

Rob Yates is next to go for Warwickshire - and the prodigious Simon Harmer has a second wicket.

Once again, despite his previous determined efforts, it was not the best shot as Yates fails to contact with an intended sweep - and he is out LBW to earn Harmer his 59th wicket in the County Championship this season.

The new man in Warwickshire's other debutant, Michael Burgess.

  7. 50 runs

for Glenn Maxwellpublished at 13:48 British Summer Time 14 July 2019

    Lancashire 262-3, Sussex 127

Fair play to Glenn Maxwell. He reaches his 50 for Lancashire from 74 balls including four boundaries. He was only a late inclusion after a tentative enquiry from Lancs following England's win over Australia in the World Cup semi-finals on Thursday.

Oh, and he took 4-41 with the ball yesterday too.

    Top pro.

  8. Notts toil on turning pitchpublished at 13:28 British Summer Time 14 July 2019

    Surrey 240 v Nottinghamshire 104-7 - lunch

    Dave Bracegirdle
    BBC Radio Nottingham commentator

Amar Virdi picked up five wickets on the second morning of Surrey’s County Championship match against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge.

The 20-year old spinner took five of the six wickets to fall as Notts stumbled their way to lunch, still 136 runs behind.

Jake Libby and Tom Moores withstood the opening 30-minute fiery burst from Morne Morkel before wickets began to tumble.

Virdi, switched to the Radcliffe Road end of the ground, opened his account by removing Libby lbw for 23 and Moores (12), Steven Mullaney (0), Samit Patel (12) and Liam Paterson-White (0) also fell to the spinner as Notts collapsed dramatically on a turning surface.

  9. Sussex need new-ball wicketspublished at 13:25 British Summer Time 14 July 2019

    Sussex 127 v Lancashire 255-3 - lunch

    Adrian Harms
    Sports reporter, BBC Sussex

A good morning for Lancashire, adding 106 for the loss of two wickets and extending their lead to 128

After Delray Rawlins had produced perhaps the catch of the season, a full-length leap at backward point - to dismiss Keaton Jennings, Lancashire have quietly gone about their business, with Glenn Maxwell and Rob Jones compiling an unbroken half-century partnership

The new ball is available in two overs and Sussex simply must take wickets to force themselves back into this game.

  10. Durham reach 'calmer waters'published at 13:24 British Summer Time 14 July 2019

    Durham 209-8 v Worcestershire - lunch

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Newcastle commentator

When Durham were 47-6 at lunch on day one the chances of a batting point looked remote - but Ned Eckersley and Ben Raine guided them into calmer waters with a seventh-wicket stand of 115.

It ended when Eckersley edged Ed Barnard to Riki Wessels at first slip on 50. He'd faced 113 balls by that time and it was the fourth time this season he's reached the half-century mark.

Of the top eight partnerships for Durham this season Eckersley has been involved in half of them!

Raine has reached lunch on 77 and Durham have so far added 162 runs have been added for their last two wickets. He and Brydon Carse put on 47 but Carse fell to the final ball of the morning, caught at second slip by Daryl Mitchell off Ross Whiteley for 17.

  11. 'Solid' Lloyd bolsters Glamorganpublished at 13:22 British Summer Time 14 July 2019

    Middlesex 384 v Glamorgan 128-5 - lunch

    Nick Webb
    BBC Wales Sport

It was Glamorgan’s morning session in Cardiff, but they still have a lot to do to protect their unbeaten record on a pitch offering Middlesex’s bowlers some variable bounce.

After Tom Helm’s four-wicket blitz last night, David Lloyd has made a typically solid contribution to reach 54 not out, sharing a stand of 58 with Billy Root before the left-hander edged Toby Roland-Jones to slip for 32.

Captain Chris Cooke, playing his first first-team innings in nearly two months, has made a cautious start for his 14 by the interval.

Still advantage Middlesex overall, but their own lower-order showed yesterday that it is possible to prosper against the older ball.

  12. Stevens continues positive responsepublished at 13:19 British Summer Time 14 July 2019

    Hampshire 409-9 dec v Kent 14-0

    Ben Watts
    Sports reporter, BBC Radio Kent

The first hour of the day looked an important one in Southampton and, for 53 minutes, Hampshire’s batsmen had the better of it.

Who else but Darren Stevens then intervened with two wickets in two balls, firstly removing Lewis McManus for 49, then Kyle Abbott first ball and Mason Crane also without scoring in his next over.

Having had a relatively quiet season so far by his standards, Stevens has responded to previously being left out of the Kent team by producing five-wicket hauls in consecutive weeks (in the win over Surrey and now his first against Hampshire) to take his first-class tally of 'five-fers' up to 23.

Kent negotiated half an hour of Fidel Edwards and Kyle Abbott before lunch. 18-year-old Jordan Cox, on his County Championship debut is on 7 not out.

  13. Lunchtime in Canterburypublished at 13:15 British Summer Time 14 July 2019

Australian XI 82-2 v England Lions

Two wickets in the morning session for England Lions skipper Lewis Gregory, but honours even.

Kurtis Patterson is 28 not out for the Aussies.

Former Yorkshire and Worcestershire batsman Travis Head is on 1.

  14. Division Two lunchespublished at 13:07 British Summer Time 14 July 2019

    • Glamorgan 128-5, Middlesex 384
    • Lancashire 255-3, Sussex 127 all out
    • Northamptonshire 66-3 v Derbyshire
    • Durham 209-8 v Worcestershire

Cardiff first then. Glamorgan have battled back from 24-4 last night to get themselves to lunch in an okay position. Billy Root made 32 and David Lloyd is still 54 not out.

To Old Trafford and Lancashire are taking the match away from Sussex. Keaton Jennings made 65 and Glenn Maxwell and Rob Jones are now in the 40s as Lancs build a big lead.

It's been tough going at Chesterfield. Northants have barely scored in the last hour. Temba Bavuma has gone along slowly but Rob Keogh is six from 44 balls!

And Durham lost Brydon Carse to the last ball before lunch but it's still been a good morning for them against Worcestershire. Ned Eckersley made 50 and Ben Raine is 77 not out. Durham were 47-6 yesterday morning.

  15. Lunchtime in Southamptonpublished at 13:04 British Summer Time 14 July 2019

    Hampshire 409-9 dec, Kent 14-0

Hampshire pacemen Fidel Edwards and Kyle Abbott got though eight overs before lunch at the Kent opening batsmen. But they have so far failed to make a breakthrough.

Kent assistant coach Allan Donald told BBC Radio Kent that this was "an absolute peach of a wicket".

In which case, all the more credit then to the ageless Darren Stevens for bowling 25 such tidy overs on it and taking 5-68.

  16. Lunch at Trent Bridgepublished at 13:02 British Summer Time 14 July 2019

    Nottinghamshire 104-7, Surrey 240

What a morning for Surrey and their spinner Amar Virdi in particular. He's taken five wickets, with the other falling to veteran off-break man Gareth Batty.

It might not look good for Notts at 104-7 but it's a whole lot better than it was. Ravi Ashwin and Luke Wood have moved into the 20s to recover them from 66-7.

  17. Lunch at Headingleypublished at 13:02 British Summer Time 14 July 2019

    Yorkshire 386-6 v Somerset

As a session it's probably quite balanced but in the context of the match Yorkshire have moved even further ahead of Somerset in this contest.

One of three dismissals, Tom Kohler-Cadmore reached his ton and departed soon after. But Harry Brook is now 50 not out, helping nudge Yorkshire towards 400.

For the session, they're 104-3. Not bad really.

  18. Lunchtime in Chelmsfordpublished at 13:00 British Summer Time 14 July 2019

    Essex 245, Warwickshire 57-4

Rob Yates (31) and Tim Ambrose (9) have so far put on on 24 in helping Warwickshire recover from 33-4.

But the further 39 runs they need to avoid the follow-on, rather than batting bonus points or a first-innings lead, still looks by far the main priority here.

Some poor shots have got the young Bears out, but Simon Harmer is already on for Essex, he has already struck and he does not normally get his wickets in 'ones'.

A second wicket for England Lions captain Lewis Gregory at Canterbury.

He gets Marcus Harris caught by Ollie Robinson for 34.

  20. 50 runs

for David Lloydpublished at 12:51 British Summer Time 14 July 2019

    Glamorgan 119-5, Middlesex 384

Having been cut down to 24-4 last night, Glamorgan have recovered well against Middlesex.

David Lloyd's battling half-century has been a big part of that. It's contained eight fours and taken 63 deliveries.
