  1. Goodbye and good nightpublished at 17:56 British Summer Time 16 July 2019

Thanks for reading everyone during what's been a hectic period of back-to-back Championship live texts. The competition hits pause now, not returning for a month as it makes way for the T20 Blast.

But guess what? We'll be live texting the busy rounds of that instead, so keep your eyes peeled this coming Friday night.

    Kent draw with Hampshire

It's a shame Kent didn't carry on entertaining us, but that was a fun half hour or so wasn't it?

County Championship cricket certainly throws up its fair share of scenarios!

  3. KENT DRAW WITH HAMPSHIREpublished at 17:49 British Summer Time 16 July 2019
    Breaking

    Kent 555 & 57-3 v Hampshire 409-9 dec & 298

And that's that - the sides decide to call it quits!

Kent skipper Joe Denly had clearly given up hope of chasing down the 153 after losing the wickets of Alex Blake and Daniel Bell-Drummond, and Hampshire were all too pleased to accept the invitation.

They were 57-3 - needing a further 96 runs at 12 an over - so you can see their reasoning.

Denly finishes not out on 29 from 22 balls and Kent take 12 points from the match, with Hampshire claiming 11.

  4. wicket

    WICKET Bell-Drummond b Abbott 2published at 17:46 British Summer Time 16 July 2019

    Kent 56-3 v Hampshire (target 153)

A bottom edge from Daniel Bell-Drummond, who plays onto his own stumps!

Kent are 56-3 and need to be a bit careful themselves - they don't want to put themselves in a position where they're having to hang in there to avoid defeat.

It's Kyle Abbott with the wicket and he has fantastic figures of 1-19. Ollie Robinson next in for Kent, who need 97 runs to win.

  5. wicket

WICKET Blake c McManus b Edwards 15published at 17:41 British Summer Time 16 July 2019

    Kent 53-2 v Hampshire (target 153)

Alex Blake never really got going and now edges one behind to Hampshire keeper Lewis McManus - attempting a hook shot - off the bowling of Fidel Edwards.

I say that... 15 from 14 balls isn't too shabby but Joe Denly is very much Kent's main man at the other end.

Daniel Bell-Drummond is in - Kent are 53-2, needing exactly 100 to win.

  6. Postpublished at 17:39 British Summer Time 16 July 2019

    Kent 49-1 v Hampshire (target 153)

10 overs to go and Kent need 104 to get the job done.

Kyle Abbott is bowling rather better than his Hampshire team-mate Keith Barker - going for only 19 runs off his four overs.

Fidel Edwards replaces Barker now - Joe Denly and Alex Blake still in the middle and ready to pounce.

  7. Postpublished at 17:33 British Summer Time 16 July 2019

    Kent 42-1 v Hampshire (target 153)

A strong over for Kent - Joe Denly (24*) doing most of the heavy lifting as Fidel Edwards goes for 11.

    They're 42-1 - 111 runs required from 11 overs, exactly 10 an over needed.

    Certainly doable!

  8. Postpublished at 17:30 British Summer Time 16 July 2019

    Kent 31-1 v Hampshire (target 153)

It almost feels like Kent are trying *too* hard here, Joe Denly swinging desperately at every delivery.

With so many fielders on the boundaries there are relatively easy twos on offer.

Kent need 122 off 12 overs - Hampshire will feel OK right now.

  9. Very quick update from Cheltenhampublished at 17:30 British Summer Time 16 July 2019

    Leicestershire 252, Gloucestershire 253-5

I'll be gone as quickly as I've arrived so we can keep focus on Southampton.

Gloucestershire have nudged ahead but lost three quick wickets at Cheltenham.

Their set batsmen, Chris Dent (125) and Tom Smith (84), have been removed by Leicestershire seamer Chris Wright. He's also just dismissed Graeme van Buuren for a duck. From 241-3 to 252-5.

    Back to Kent's run chase!

  10. Postpublished at 17:24 British Summer Time 16 July 2019

    Kent 27-1 v Hampshire (target 153)

Kent get 11 off the fourth over - they need another 128 to beat Hampshire.

Drinks are being brought out already! A chance for a message to be passed onto batsman Joe Denly and Alex Blake?

We have 13 overs to play.

  11. 6 runs

Postpublished at 17:22 British Summer Time 16 July 2019

    Kent 21-1 v Hampshire (target 153)

Joe Denly gets the first six of Kent's innings, and it probably won't be the last.

The visitors 21-1 in the fourth over, needing almost 10 an over to chase down 153 in these remaining 13.4 overs.

Denly and Alex Blake are certainly two of the better batsman to have a right go at this.

  12. wicket

WICKET Dickson c Organ b Barker 4published at 17:14 British Summer Time 16 July 2019

    Kent 9-1 v Hampshire (target 153)

Kent are trying to slog and in doing so lose Sean Dickson.

It's a lovely catch from Felix Organ, who sprints 10 yards to take the ball at deep mid-off from Keith Barker's bowling.

Dickson goes for four - Kent are 9-1, chasing 153, and big hitter Alex Blake is next in, having come in as a concussion replacement for Heino Kuhn.

  13. Postpublished at 17:09 British Summer Time 16 July 2019

    Kent 2-0 v Hampshire (target 153)

Kent get two off the first over, bowled by Kyle Abbott.

Hampshire are in no rush to get through these 17 overs any quicker than necessary.

The visitors now need 151 from 96 balls to pull off a quite outstanding win.

  14. Wade retires hurt for Aussiespublished at 17:06 British Summer Time 16 July 2019

    Australian XI 397 & 176-4, England Lions 267

An Australian XI is taking on the England Lions and building a tidy lead on day three of four at Canterbury but the real story is a potential blow for the Aussies as the opening Ashes Test approaches.

Matthew Wade has been heavily talked up to play as a special batsman at Edgbaston on 1 August and did his cause no harm by scoring 114 in the first innings against the Lions.

But he had to retire hurt just nine balls in to his second innings after being hit on the elbow by a delivery from Somerset fast bowler Lewis Gregory. He tried to battle on but had to call it quits a few minutes later.

And he looked to be in a fair bit of pain.

  15. Kent start run-chasepublished at 17:04 British Summer Time 16 July 2019

    Kent 0-0 v Hampshire (target 153)

Kent need 153 to win from 102 balls - perfect practice ahead of the upcoming T20 Blast campaign, right?

Whichever way this goes, it should be fun providing the visitors decide to go for it.

Hampshire have a new ball, with Sean Dickson and Joe Denly out to bat.

  16. wicket

WICKET Edwards c Robinson b Stewart 0published at 16:56 British Summer Time 16 July 2019

    Hampshire 409-9 dec & 298 v Kent 555 (target 153)

    HERE WE GO THEN!

Fidel Edwards caught behind for a third-ball duck off Grant Stewart and Hampshire are all out for 298.

Kent need 153 to win - that's nine an over in the time left. Surely they'll at least have a go?

WICKET Crane c Cox b Stewart 7published at 16:50 British Summer Time 16 July 2019

    Hampshire 409-9 dec & 298-9 v Kent 555

Mason Crane is caught by Jordan Cox at leg gully off the bowling of Grant Stewart for seven.

Hampshire are 298-9 - a lead of 152 - and Kent once again have a bit of a spring in their step.

Fidel Edwards is last in for the hosts, but even if Kent get the final wicket now they'll only have 17 overs to chase the target.

  18. Game slipping away from Kentpublished at 16:45 British Summer Time 16 July 2019

    Hampshire 409-9 dec & 294-8 v Kent 555

Another 15 minutes come and go in Southampton and Hampshire still have two wickets intact.

Keith Barker (35*) and Mason Crane (7*) are doing what's needed, after a glimmer of hope for Kent earlier.

The draw looks inevitable, with the lead now at 150 - will they shake hands soon?

  19. wicket

WICKET Abbott lbw Denly 8published at 16:30 British Summer Time 16 July 2019

    Hampshire 409-9 dec & 285-8 v Kent 555

Not so fast... Joe Denly gets his third wicket - do Kent have enough time to pull off something special?

Kyle Abbott is the man to fall, lbw, and Hampshire are 285-8, a lead of 139 runs.

A minimum of 24.1 overs remain as Mason Crane walks into the middle.

  20. 100 runs

100 for Chris Dentpublished at 16:19 British Summer Time 16 July 2019

    Gloucestershire 197-2 v Leicestershire 252

Forgive us for not focusing on this game too much, though they are only in day two between Gloucestershire and Leicestershire, with frantic finishes elsewhere.

But it's been a skipper's innings from Gloucestershire captain Chris Dent, who gets a second ton of the year against the Foxes from 202 balls.

The hosts look likely to build a decent first-innings lead, trailing by 55 runs with eight wickets still in hand.
