Phil in Cambridge, I have had the exact same 48 hours... engaged Saturday Night and the most amazing game of cricket ever Sunday! I had to admit to my fiancé though that I was more nervous during final than the proposal

My brother Alex got married on Saturday. A wonderful celebration then topped off with more celebrations Sunday as England won the World Cup. What. A. Weekend!

England win the Cricket World Cup

Jofra Archer speaking to the BBC at The Oval: "The (eligibility) rules changed this year but I still thought it'd be another three or four years (to play for England).

"I'm grateful to have the opportunity to be selected and to win the World Cup. Being here right now tops it all off."

Remember 2005, the boozy parade through the streets of London? This is the opposite of that and much more in keeping with the nature of this team. As they came down the pavilion steps, they were surrounded by children. Holding the trophy, Eoin Morgan was swamped by kids wanting to touch the silverware. Then the players peeled off to speak to adoring individual groups. It's lovely.

Got engaged on Saturday and watched England win the World Cup in the most mind-bending way on Sunday. I don't imagine I'll ever have another weekend like it. Bloody hell.

    Phil, Cambridge

Now THAT is a pretty decent 48 hours! Congrats, Phil!

Doubt many people reading this will be able to top that...

You gotta feel for New Zealand and all-round nice guy Kane Williamson. This perhaps sums up the unassuming Kiwis skipper.

  9. 'Stokes will take that responsibility to try and see the job through and close the deal'published at 11:52 British Summer Time 15 July 2019

Cockermouth School PE teacher Chris Hayes, Ben Stokes’ old teacher, told the Press Association: "I was absolutely convinced he would not be out. I've seen that in him before. He won't give his wicket away.

"He'll take that responsibility to try and see the job through and close the deal - and by hook or by crook he did.

"He had that determination all the time, that game management as well as the talent. It doesn't surprise me at all that he was able to do that.

"The ability to concentrate with that bat in hand is unbelievable and he showed that on many occasions with us.

"When you're a schoolboy cricketer, you rely on one or two to win the game for you. You know that if you don't do it then nobody else will do it so he's been well aware of that for a long time."

We're awaiting the arrival of the England team, who I'm told are surprsingly fresh this morning. This event, a carnival of junior cricket, was actually taking place today regardless, but the goalposts have been shifted by yesterday's incredible events. The England team are going to be introduced to the crowd and will join in with the kids, then they have a date at Downing Street.

"What a day, it has changed the history of English cricket," Liam Plunkett said.

"Everyone got to watch that. I hope everyone gets involved and loves it like when we won the Ashes in 2005. It was a special day.

"We have been amazing and we have changed the culture of cricket in England. I don't believe in the stars and all that stuff, but it was the first time that I felt: 'This is meant to be."

  19. New Zealand defeat devastating - Kane Williamsonpublished at 11:20 British Summer Time 15 July 2019

New Zealand showed "a lot of heart" in their "devastating" World Cup final defeat by England, says captain Kane Williamson.

With both sides scoring 241 from their 50 overs, the final was decided on a super over, and the Black Caps failed to beat England's score of 15.

Defeat was New Zealand's second in successive World Cup finals after losing to Australia in 2015.

"It just wasn't meant to be," said Williamson.

"I want to thank our side for the fight they showed throughout this entire campaign.

"Both sides showed a lot of heart. To go down to the last ball, it's tough. It's devastating."
