Smith 50, Siddle 0
A very eventful over but no wicket for England.
The sun is now out but there are some very threatening dark clouds. Don't rule out a shower.

The boos... it's water under the bridge now. They know what they did, they've been punished for it, it's been and gone.
It's just appeal after appeal at one end but at the other Steve Smith chugs along to 50.
There are loud, loud boos as the former captain reaches the landmark.
Image source, ReutersSiddle has just driven that straight into the ground. What a waste of everyone's time.
There are a few boos from the crowd, I think at the decision to check that.

What are the umpires talking about here? They're checking to see if it was a bump ball. The umpiring today has not been ideal.
I can't keep up.
The ball is in the hands of backward point but there's no real appeal because it looks like a bump ball.
The umpires want to check it anyway.

How did the umpire not see that?!
This is brilliant entertainment but the umpires are having a shocker.
Not out.
Siddle has got a big inside edge...

Peter Siddle is going to refer this - I wonder if I might have heard two noises.
Woakes gets Siddle lbw!
But it's reviewed straight away.
Siddle is grinning. Has he hit it?

Ben Stokes is hooping the ball around here. If England could nip these two wickets out and then watch the dark clouds disappear that'd be perfect for the hosts.
Chris Woakes is coming back at the other end.

Can we stop hating Steve Smith? He didn't (doesn't) have the temperament or authority to be a great or even good captain. Warner led him too easily. But Steve Smith most certainly has the temperament and authority to be a great batsman and this should be admired.

More loud chants of "It's all gone quiet over there" at a gloomy Edgbaston. The Aussie fans are unmoved.
An enthusiastic appeal now from Stokes and Bairstow but not much from slips. Has Smith nicked that?
No. The replays show he flicked his pad. A good decision not to review.

That only missed Jonny Bairstow's paw by a couple of inches...

Peter Siddle's most memorable innings is a Test in Delhi, where he top-scored in both innings batting at nine.
