Stuart Broad has returned to the attack and got one into the pads of Steve Smith.
Big appeal but not given.
Joe Root reviews it. Not sure even Broad wanted that review. Going down leg.

Ian: The people booing Steve Smith when he went to his century don't belong at cricket! He's served his punishment so get over it & grow up.
Moeen Ali serves up some buffet bowling and Steve Smith smacks it through point for four.
Nathan Lyon gets one ball to face and leaves it alone to face.
Tom Fordyce
BBC chief sports writer at Edgbaston
The applause around Edgbaston overwhelmed the boos for Steve Smith as that cover drive went away to bring up his century. If that innings doesn’t change what happened 16 months ago in Cape Town, it may have changed the course of this match.
Parking whatever you think about Steve Smith, he's just scored a near chanceless century while his team have collapsed around him in an away Ashes in his first Test since March 2018.
He'll go down as one of the greats.

Smith 104, Lyon 4

There are people applauding around Edgbaston. There is the occasional boo but you have to admire a man who bared his soul. He was in a horrible place in the full glare of the publicity.
Steve Smith is an idiosyncratic force of nature. What a remarkable, resilient, resolute knock.
He finally reaches his 24th Test century with a firm drive through the covers for four.
A roar of applause at first, a sizeable amount of boos too as the former Australia captain pulls off his helmet, whips his bat round, a wide grin on his face as he salutes his team-mates and the Aussie fans in the crowd.
Short and Smith pulls...all along the ground straight to Moeen Ali round the corner. He thought he had it there.

England are really trying to drag this out.
Ben Stokes bowling to Steve Smith on 99.
If you don't like that, you don't like Test cricket.
Glenn McGrath
Ex-Australia bowler on BBC Test Match Special
It will be massive for Smith if he gets to his hundred. It has been a tough time. It was not right what they did but they have served their penalty. It goes to show his mental strength. He is a quality batsman.
Nathan Lyon defends again. Solid.

They are shouting in the stands for Moeen to get Lyon out.
