It is a shame to see Siddle not get to his fifty. He deserved that. You can hear the applause for a job well done.

Last man Nathan Lyon just about evades nicking off first up.
A fine over from Moeen Ali - a wicket maiden.

What a resilient innings from Siddle.
Siddle c Buttler b Moeen 44 (Aus 210-9)
And Moeen Ali makes the breakthrough!
The England off-spinner goes round the wicket, gets a bit of grip and Peter Siddle defends but slices it off the inside edge to Jos Buttler at short leg.
A solid, sharp catch and Siddle's defiant stand is over.
Clear relief for England. Can they pick up the last wicket quickly?
Moeen Ali is going to have a go...

This shows it is a new-ball wicket. Once you get past 40 overs it starts getting into the batsman's favour.

Smith 85, Siddle 44
Ben Stokes fires it down leg, Peter Siddle tries to turn it round the corner and Jonny Bairstow tumbles to take the catch. England go up for caught behind but that clearly flicked off Siddle's hip instead of bat.
Stokes goes round the wicket, bumps it down in his half and Siddle pulls a little loosely but the ball drops safe.

Is this an England bowling collapse?
Jonny in Halifax
Watching Ben Stokes bowl 80mph half-trackers that Steve Smith comfortably rocks round the corner for a single is the worst part of this job.

The ball has gone soft and hasn't done as much. Steve Smith has looked really good today.
Australia were 122-8 and now Joe Denly is bowling gentle leg-spin.
Ashes cricket comes at you pretty fast.

Siddle & Smith. Sounds more like an IPA than an Australian rescue mission.
Nigella, Fulham
Remember when Jason Roy dismissively carted Steve Smith's leg-spin all over Edgbaston in the World Cup?
Smith charges Joe Denly and drives him down the ground for four.

Would much rather they got 250 and we don’t have to bat tonight anyway.

This is a very good position from where Australia were.

This is where you need pace. There is no substitute. It is so important because it upsets the tailender.
