This is decent progress from New Zealand. Especially after lunch, knowing that they'll face the examination of the new ball. They'll be happy with the way Watling and De Grandhomme have both got a couple of drives away. England haven't bowled particularly badly but Joe Root does have to get his field right.

Sam Curran continues. One more over before Jofra gets a dart?

Over in Brisbane, Australia have negotiated the first hour against Pakistan and have moved to 351-1, a lead of 111.

Strangely, David Warner has only scored three runs so far today. While at the other end Marnus Labuschagne is closing in on a first Test century.

Colin de Grandhomme adds three more to his total with another drive. Dom Sibley - still wearing his thick sweater in bright sunshine - has to flick the ball back just inside the rope.

The new ball has been the time to score in this Test. Runs are coming a little quicker after lunch.

What does Joe Root do here? Does he carry on with Sam Curran in the hope he gets one in the right area and Colin de Grandhomme doesn't time it right?

And again! Same delivery, same shot and same result. Another driven four from Colin de Grandhomme.

Will that make Root think again about bowling Curran?

Right now Joe Root has given Stuart Broad and Sam Curran the opportunity but I think he's strong enough to change it if it's not going to plan.

Shot. The shot of the day maybe.

Sam Curran goes full in search of swing and he finds a hint but Colin de Grandhomme crunches the ball through extra cover.

    There's no stopping that.

Ben Stokes has just been doing a handstand on the outfield and he held it quite impressively.

You can see Stokes' handstand skills in the video below.

Broad stands with a full tea pot halfway down the pitch after BJ Watling squirts one away off a bit edgily. The New Zealand wicketkeeper-batsman is frustrating England.

Rank has been pulled. Joe Root is probably spoilt for options with the new ball. Stuart Broad has got a great record of getting the ball in the right areas with the new ball.

It is Stuart Broad who will share the new ball. He has not taken a wicket yet in 15 overs.

He's that sort of player Colin de Grandhomme. Jeremy Coney was saying he has quite a languid technique. Sam Curran will be encouraged by the deliveries he's bowled so far.

    Watling 45, De Grandhomme 16

It must always be easier to take one for the team and stay up all night when the cricket is on.

De Grandhomme pushes a nice two but is then almost caught out by another delivery from Curran that nips back in. A probing start from the England all-rounder.
