    NZ 258-5published at 91.5 overs

Quite a few England fielders have their hands on their hips. Ben Stokes is looking stern-faced at slip...

And this won't help the mood!

Colin de Grandhomme takes on an Archer bouncer and the ball carries all the way for six.

All the way through the game we've seen it's not the sort of wicket where you see the new ball swinging and zipping past the edge. It's the sort of wicket where you need to just keep plugging away.

  3. NZ 252-5published at 91.1 overs

An 81mph loosener from Archer first up. He'll have to crank himself up.

Here's Jofra. England need something. They need a lift. Can he deliver?

The 50 partnership came up from 117 balls. It's the eighth 50 partnership of the match, the highest is still 83 though.

  6. NZ 252-5published at 91 overs

    Watling 50, De Grandhomme 36

Stuart Broad only has one slip with a ball eight overs old. This pitch really has not done much today. It's very flat. There hasn't been any of the uneven bounce that we saw on the wicket of Kane Williamson last night.

Are England fans starting to get twitchy?

That's a nice stroke from De Grandhomme. He just gave it a little bit of a punch.

  8. NZ 251-5published at 90.2 overs

This new ball is not talking for England. Colin de Grandhomme drives Broad for a lovely four now. That's the New Zealand 250 and the fifty partnership up.

The lead is now just 102.

I've just seen a clip of that Warner wicket. It was a quick bouncer from 16-year-old Naseem. 88mph and Warner did not look comfortable at all, gloving the ball through to the keeper.

No joy for Curran in his latest over. It's definitely time for Archer now.

David Warner is finally out for 154 in Brisbane. It's a first Test wicket for 16-year-old Naseem Shah too.

The bad news for Pakistan? It brings Steve Smith to the crease.

Watling has played very well. He's just nudged and nurdled and he's inching New Zealand closer to wiping out the deficit. It was just the sort of innings that was needed.

Still no Archer. Curran continues and Watling tucks him off the hip to move to his 18th Test fifty.

Well batted. It hasn't been flash but these runs have been crucial.

The truth is this new ball has done very little. New Zealand are just chipping away.

England have a fielder out on the point boundary which probably tells you Joe Root has his diminishing lead in the back of his mind.

BJ Watling finds that fielder to move to 49.

Sam Curran is a little terrier and does take wickets don't get me wrong but it is at the cost of the most penetrative bowler, I think, not bowling with the new ball.

  19. NZ 241-5published at 88 overs

    Watling 48, De Grandhomme 28

Archer wasn't at his best this morning and hasn't been in this match. He's patiently waiting in the outfield at the moment.

There's something there for Curran. The plan is obvious. He's trying to swing the ball back into De Grandhomme's pads. The New Zealander gets an inside edge again to deny England.

I know who I wouldn't want to be facing with the new ball. It's perhaps a cliche that you give the new ball to the fastest bowler but it does feel a bit strange.
