    Shot!

It's short and wide from Ben Stokes but BJ Watling absolutely crunches one to the cover fence. New Zealand are looking to be a bit more positive since the drinks break.

New Zealand have been pretty circumspect. It has been slow progress.

  8. NZ 181-4published at 68 overs

Better from Archer to finish the over as BJ Watling weaves superbly out the way of a well-directed bouncer before a pitched-up delivery is stopped in the covers.

New Zealand are still 172 runs behind but they're starting to draw themselves back into this game.

  9. NZ 181-4published at 67.4 overs

Another rank delivery from Jofra Archer goes for another four byes. That's the fifty partnership between Henry Nicholls and BJ Watling - a crucial partnership for the Kiwis.

Archer follows it up a no-ball. This is ropey from the quick.

Jofra Archer is going around the wicket to the right-handed BJ Watling. Cue the short-ball barrage.

England have a got a slip, leg slip and short leg in.

These two are two very good players and are forming a very good partnership. Nicholls in particular has shown his mettle after being hit on the head yesterday.

England will be reevaluating, thinking about what cards they can play. I would like to see Jack Leach brought into the attack.

  13. NZ 176-4published at 67 overs

BJ Watling flicks off his hips to move to 22. Ben Stokes let out a huge groan as the wicketkeeper played that stroke. He's starting to seethe.

Shot! That is gorgeous from Henry Nicholls. He stands tall and plays the ball under his nose and pierces it through gully for his fourth boundary.

Ben Stokes will continue after the drinks break.

He starts with a HUGE no-ball.

It has looked pretty flat this morning. There is not much pace in the pitch so scoring runs hasn't been easy.

England haven't really created any clear cut opportunities in that first hour.

They've had a couple of half-hearted lbw shouts and wasted a review when Henry Nicholls clearly edged a Jofra Archer delivery but apart from that there's been very little.

Joe Root has a got a big job on his hands in the huddle during this drinks break to get his troops going.

  19. drinks break

    NZ 170-4published at 66 overs

Jofra Archer gets one to nip back and it cannons into Henry Nicholls thigh pad. England have found a little bit more movement in the last 10 minutes or so.

Archer resorts to the short ball twice but Nicholls ducks well both times. He's looked good today after taking the blow on the head late last night.

That's drinks. There have been 26 runs and no wickets in the first hour. England are being frustrated.

Ben Stokes doesn't look fully fit here. He is bowling around 80mph and doesn't look to be moving that freely.
