It may be too late for already-relegated Notts, but that's a fine first session.

Skipper Steven Mullaney has raced to 90 off just 82 balls. 17 fours in there too.

Joe Clarke is unbeaten on 32. Mullaney's men will be desperate to avoid going winless this season. They've given themselves a chance.

  2. End of morning session at Ageas Bowlpublished at 12:35 British Summer Time 16 September 2019

    Hants 75-6 v Somerset

An absolute horror show for Hampshire in bowler-friendly conditions comes to an end - for 40 minutes at any rate.

18 runs painstakingly added by Dawson and McManus in the past 11 overs.

  9. 'A frustrating morning'published at 12:20 British Summer Time 16 September 2019

Essex v Surrey - start delayed, bad light

    Nick Gledhill
    BBC Essex

A very frustrating morning for Essex who have not been able to start their game against Surrey due to persistent bad light which is not forecast to improve appreciably as the day goes on.

It is likely that Surrey will not contest the toss should we start under lights unless it’s very late in the day and they feel their batsmen can battle through to better weather tomorrow.

No-one fancied the draw going into this match but, given Somerset’s start at the Ageas Bowl, it is not likely to be good enough for Essex.

That prospect is still a long way off but the possibility increases if the stubborn low cloud cover stays put all day.

  10. Hampshire six down at Southmptonpublished at 12:18 British Summer Time 16 September 2019

    Hants 66-6 v Somerset

Tom Abell bowls to Liam Dawson - who shoulders arms and lets the ball go to the keeper.

Movement in the air and off the pitch for Abell but not straight enough to trouble Dawson.

A leg-side ball is tapped away for a single.

Oscar Livesey: Something very special about September cricket. The ball swinging everywhere and Somerset winning their first championship. I'm starting to believe in the cidermen. Somerset la la la.

Still three slips in place as the White Rose continue to attack.

A straighter ball is safely pushed to Gary Ballance at mid-wicket.

Shot! Darren Stevens opens the face and guides the next ball through point for four.

    That's the 50 partnership.
