Any ideas when they'll take tea? Trying to plan my revision schedule around the cricket...

  4. SA 117-3published at 38 overs

James Anderson stumbles over in his follow through but is up quickly enough.

Rassie van der Dussen leaves the last and it grazes his pads, outside the line of off.

A tidy return over, just one from it.

Do we want there to be no mistakes by umpires? Is that a feature or a bug in the game?

How about a little wire across the line? Overstep and zap, you get a little tickle in your feet. That'll stop overstepping.

Dom Bess to continue after the drinks break.

He is, you may notice, not James Anderson, who still hasn't bowled in this session.

  11. drinks break

    Drinks breakpublished at 36 overs

    SA 115-3

Ben Stokes seems to be bowling more uncalled no-balls than not right now.

And he's not threatening either batsman much.

    England have let this drift.

A drinks break to gather their thoughts and improve their plans.

James Anderson has not bowled after lunch.

    Hmm.

  13. SA 109-3published at 35 overs

Dean Elgar is OK to continue. Just one from Dom Bess' latest over.

  14. Postpublished at 12:02 Greenwich Mean Time 4 January 2020

Dean Elgar has done himself a bit of a mischief diving for that quick single.

He's getting some attention from the physio on his back.

Would the third umpire not relay a message to the on-field umpires to let them know that they are missing so many no-balls?

Dean Elgar takes a sharp single and puts in the dive. The throw misses but the South Africa opener would've been in anyway.

Ex-England bowler on The Cricket Social

Mark Wood brings something different to the attack. He's quick through the air and skiddy. Broad and Anderson are brilliant bowlers, but attacks need variety. England do have that variety, but it's about getting them fit and knowing who to pick for which game.
