It's all about Steve: Greatest compliment I can pay Dom Sibley is that he looks to be the most methodical Alastair Cook-like run scoring opener for England since Alastair Cook. A breakthrough innings.

This has been a sight for sore eyes. Dom Sibley has done exactly what he needed to do.

Incidentally, only one man - Marnus Labuschagne - scored more first-class runs than Dom Sibley anywhere in the world in 2019. The players are taking drinks. Sibley might be celebrating with something bubbly.

Dom Sibley has hit 16 fours, showing he's been very patient but also put away the bad ball well.

This is the slowest Test century for England since Ian Bell's 293-ball ton against India in Nagpur in the final Test of the 2012-13 series.

That was one of the worst pitches ever in Test cricket but Bell's effort secured a draw and a series win.

Theo HV: Well played Sibley... an innings of mental concentration and patience. A proper Test innings.

Daniel: Sibley what a knock! Excellent hundred, well played!

Tom: Dom Sibley, absolutely class innings. Finally do we have an opener who can open?!

There it is! Ben Stokes celebrated first. Now the two batsmen embrace. A terrific effort by Dom Sibley, he's done exactly what he had to do.

Stokes has taken the pressure off him this morning and he's just carried on.

    Oh yes!

    Well batted, Dominic Sibley!

He sweeps (yes, sweeps) Keshav Maharaj to the boundary for a moment he will never forget - his maiden Test century.

Huge cheers from the Barmies, a hug from Ben Stokes and a punch of the air.

If you put him with Rory Burns, do England finally have an opening pair?

At the other end, Dom Sibley's quest for a century continues. With an edge between second slip and gully going to the third man boundary, he's on to 99. The end of the over. He'll have to wait.

Stokes won't match that second-fastest 32-ball mark of Botham. His 32nd delivery is reverse-swept for a couple, cut off at the third man boundary. I don't know what the third-fastest half-century for an England player is...
