John Higgins: Well done Sibley, helped in no small part by my latest invention (which he kindly agreed to trial).

Ben Stokes played some raspers this mornings, and now Jos Buttler is in on the act. Full from Nortje - who bowls at 90mph, remember - and Buttler drives over extra cover for six. Fantasy cricket.

I do appreciate those times when cricket makes you take a long, hard look at yourself. Anrich Nortje was ill at the beginning of the day, but now he has the ball. He looks rough...

Seán: Realised today that I couldn't remember exactly how far the popping crease is from the stumps. So I started to Google 'how far is the gap...' and Google suggested '...between the richest and poorest', and now I'm wondering if I need to asses my priorities in life.

Watchful start from Buttler, who studies this over from Keshav Maharaj. On the South Africa balcony, batting coach Jacques Kallis strokes his chin. He's probably still the best batsman in the stadium right now.

Of all the players a fielding side least wants to see walking to the crease in this situation, Jos Buttler would take some beating.

It will be interesting to see how Sibley plays now. Will he open his shoulders and play a few shots? He's got to press on and not put too much pressure on the batsmen at the other end.

    Pope b Rabada 3 (Eng 315-6)

This obviously isn't great for Ollie Pope, but, in the grand scheme of things, England won't mind a bit of variable bounce.

This one from Kagiso Rabada keeps a touch low with Pope, cutting when the ball is probably too close for the shot, dragging on.

    The game is moving on...

Is there anything better than Test cricket? One batsman reaches a century over three sessions of play, and everyone knows he has played brilliantly. Another batsman reaches 70 after only an hour, and it is magnificent, yet complementary.

And before anyone says the fastest hundred chat was a case of mockers, I'm nailing my colours to the mast. There's no such thing as mockers.

    There. I said it.

Ollie Pope is the new man.

What are we going to do before lunch, now? We might have to make do with normal Test cricket.

Stokes c Van der Dussen b Maharaj 72 (Eng 310-5)

It was magnificent while it lasted.

Ben Stokes looks for the rope once again, slapping Keshav Maharaj straight, but this one doesn't have enough mustard on it. Rassie van der Dussen takes the catch at long-on.

Stokes leaves to a standing ovation from the away fans. Superb entertainment.

Ben Stokes is the last batsman to score 100 runs in a session - he hit 103 in the afternoon session against Australia at Headingley in the summer.

  17. Eng 307-4published at 09:40 Greenwich Mean Time 6 January 2020

To mark your card, the fastest Test hundred by an England player is Gilbert Jessop's 76-ball effort against Australia in 1902. I'm backing that to go...

  18. Eng 306-4published at 09:38 Greenwich Mean Time 6 January 2020

Remember that switch hit Stokes played at Headingley, off Lyon for six? This is very similar, but 'only' goes for four. He's up to 70 off 43. The hundred before lunch will be cantered at this rate.

Maharaj comes back after drinks with an absolute pie that Stokes pulls for four. Next ball, skip down, six straight down the ground. Maharaj is powerless.
