Summary

  • England win by two wickets despite losing four wickets for 20 runs

  • Denly (66) and Root (49) impress after Bairstow's fast start (43 off 23)

  • Miller's late hitting - 69 off 53 balls - helps South Africa post 256-7

  • Three wickets for Rashid in his 100th ODI

  • Rashid earlier denied wicket of Van der Dussen first ball because of technical issues

  • SA were given their review back because full technology wasn't available for previous delivery when Bavuma was lbw to Rashid

  • England won toss, final game of three-match series which SA lead 1-0

  1. SA 134-3published at 29 overs

It's all going on at the other end but Quinton de Kock still looks like he's having a net. He's still batting in a cap which is adding to that relaxed feel. A chip down the ground gives him two.

    He loves playing against England.

  2. 6 runs

    SA 130-3published at 28.2 overs

Jonny Bairstow is very loud behind the stumps today. "When's the sweep coming, Dil?". "Top edge to Saq, here Rash."

JJ Smuts does indeed sweep but he nails it over mid-wicket.

  3. SA 123-3published at 28 overs

    Run rate 4.39

Screams of "caaaaaatch" from Jonny Bairstow. Quinton de Kock skies the ball into the leg side and it's Chris Jordan haring after the ball. He's the fielder England would have wanted to go for it but he aborts the attempted catch.

Could he have got there with a dive? I'm not in a position to criticise Chris Jordan's fielding.

  4. SA 119-3published at 27 overs

    De Kock 60, Smuts 9

Back over to South Africa's middle order being bamboozled by Adil Rashid.

JJ Smuts looks like a small child seeing magic for the first time. Utterly bemused. Rashid tosses one up and it goes between pad and bat, narrowly missing the stumps.

Thanks Jack. A nice quiet game then...

It's getting loud at the Bullring and a bit feisty on the field too. England's players were not happy with Rassie van der Dussen amid that shambolic episode.

The volume in the stands goes up another notch when De Kock pummels Moeen into the stands.

South Africa's right handers are playing Rashid as if they're wearing blindfolds.

  9. SA 107-3published at 25 overs

Adil Rashid flights it up and Jon-Jon Smuts misses with an ugly heave.

The ball misses the stumps too and deflects off Jonny Bairstow for a bye.

  10. 50 runs

50 for De Kockpublished at 09:52 Greenwich Mean Time 9 February 2020

Amid all the drama, Quinton de Kock has steadily worked his way to his 25th ODI half-century.

Pink cap on now for the Proteas opener, who looks to be taking on the captaincy with aplomb

Rassie van der Dussen against pace + Keaton Jennings against spin = the complete batsman.

So not just bad communication but also perhaps an incorrect application of the rules by the umpires over that review.

The best way to get rid of any doubt on a dismissal - clean the batsman up. Van der Dussen on his way this time.

You can't review this. Rassie van der Dussen is very ropey against spin and is emphatically sent on his way by Moeen Ali.

He goes back, trying to push down the ground but makes a hash of it and sees his stumps rearranged.

Jonny Bairstow and Jason Roy give him a send off - their ire should perhaps be more aimed at the umpires.

England's spin twins are putting their team on top here.
