You wouldn't want to be the non-striker when Sophie Devine is batting. The ball comes back at you pretty often.

  2. NZ 25-1published at 6 overs

    Target 128

Reprieved, Bates is off the mark with a single - while Devine moves to 13 with a well-run two to the backward point boundary. The slingy Kulasooriya is out of luck as Devine flicks another two to long-on, the Kiwi captain looks to be moving up through the gears as the powerplay restrictions end. She now has 16 from 21 balls.

That's such a good ball. Everyone is susceptible first ball. It's hit her chest even before she has got her hands there.

  4. dropped catch

Bates dropped first ballpublished at 5.1 overs

    NZ 18-1

What a chance! Suzie Bates edges her first ball to slip, Madavi is hit squarely in the chest but can't cling on.

    How costly could that be?

  5. NZ 18-1published at 5 overs

    Target 128

But it's a wicket maiden for Prabodhani.

For comparison, Sri Lanka were 40-0 at this stage.

You have to have a bit more of a process. It's a shame. They might need that review later on.

  7. Not outpublished at 4.5 overs

    NZ 18-1

Clearly pitched outside leg. Sri Lanka rather let their emotions get the better of them, going for that review.

    Is it because it's Devine?

  9. Sri Lanka reviewpublished at 12:53 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February 2020

The bad news for Sri Lanka is that by taking a wicket, they bring the experienced, multi-talented Suzie Bates to the crease. There's a big appeal as Devine is rapped on the pad... did that pitch outside leg? Sri Lanka go for the review.

That was Madavi with the throw. She's already had a good game. Sri Lanka have a breakthrough, gifted to them by New Zealand.

Priest run out 6 (NZ 18-1)

We saw some terrific fielding from Thailand earlier today, and this was another good piece of work from Sri Lanka.

  12. Umpire reviewpublished at 12:51 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February 2020

Priest squeezes the ball to short third man, the throw hits the stumps at the bowler's end, and she's not even waiting for the third umpire's verdict...

Devine didn't middle that as well as she's hit the previous shots, but when you have that kind of power, even if you mis-time it you can still find the boundary.

  14. NZ 18-0published at 4 overs

Sophie Devine bookends the over with another boundary, this time crashing through the covers for four. Her innings so far has not been unlike Atapattu's for Sri Lanka - as well as hitting boundaries, she's been playing and missing.

There's also a mix-up between Priest and Devine that almost leads to a chaotic run-out and/or Devine colliding with the wicketkeeper. They need 110 from 96 balls.

  15. NZ 14-0published at 3.1 overs

Right-arm seamer Achini Kulasooriya into the attack - she has quite a slingy action, and Devine rides her luck as she swipes a four over the leaping, solitary slip fielder.

  17. NZ 10-0published at 3 overs

    Target 128

Prabodhani, no real pace, is difficult for New Zealand to get away. Just two singles from the over - she has 0-4 from two.

Despite not being in the New Zealand team of late, Rachel Priest has been one of the first-choice overseas signings in the WBBL and KSL.

  19. NZ 8-0published at 2 overs

    Devine 2, Priest 5

Another Priest single added - no big fireworks from Devine yet.

  20. NZ 7-0published at 1.3 overs

Off-spinner Shashikala Siriwardena, bowling in a cap, has her two scouts stationed at cow corner and long-on for the big-hitting Devine, but it's Priest who finds the first boundary of the innings with a firm sweep shot.
