  1. Stars 21-3published at 3.3 overs

Stars need everything they can get here and Josh Hazlewood is giving very little away.

  2. Stars 19-3published at 3 overs

    Target 117

Nick Larkin scored an unbeaten 83 to guide the Stars into this final.

His team need something similar now.

Ball tracking shows that straightened enough that it would have gone on to hit leg-stump flush.

A top decision by umpire Gerard Abood.

    Maxwell lbw O'Keefe 5 (Stars 18-3)

The Stars are in massive trouble now.

Captain Glenn Maxwell misses on the sweep and the ball clips his front pad.

Steve O'Keefe screams in appeal and the finger is raised.

    A livid Maxwell trudges off.

  5. Stars 18-2published at 2.3 overs

Slow left-armer Steve O'Keefe replaces Nathan Lyon.

Glenn Maxwell and Nick Larkin start by working him round for singles.

  6. Stars 15-2published at 2 overs

    Target 117

Nick Larkin, who played two List A games for Ireland in 2014, is in.

And Josh Hazlewood bowls another dot to him. He couldn't get a wicket maiden in a 12-over match, could he?

No. Larkin taps it off his pads to square leg for a single. A majestic over still.

    Maddison c Vince b Hazlewood 0 (Stars 14-2)

Nic Maddinson versus Josh Hazlewood was never a fair fight.

After three dots in a row, Hazlewood changes pace and Maddinson makes a hash of his lofted shot, tamely chipping the ball straight up in the air.

James Vince makes no mistake of the simple chance at cover.

    A four-ball duck for Maddinson.

  8. Stars 14-1published at 1.3 overs

Australia fast bowler Josh Hazlewood starts his spell with three dot balls.

  9. Stars 14-1published at 1 over

    Target 117

Stars captain Glenn Maxwell promotes himself to three.

He backs away and cuts past the point fielder for four to get off the mark.

  10. wicket

    Stoinis c Abbott b Lyon 10 (Stars 10-1)

Four, six and gone! Massive wicket for the Sixers.

Marcus Stoinis tries to clear square leg but picks him out instead and Sean Abbott makes no mistake.

The best batsman in this year's Big Bash is back in the hutch.

And the Sixers won't mind those two boundaries at all now.

  11. 6 runs

    Stars 10-0published at 0.3 overs

Wow. Marcus Stoinis just leans back and carts Nathan Lyon over long on.

The ball flies into the rope just before bouncing and that's the first six of the innings.

  12. Stars 4-0published at 0.1 overs

    Target 117

    Can't bowl there, Garry.

Marcus Stoinis starts by driving up over mid-off for four.

  13. Postpublished at 10:34 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2020

Marcus Stoinis - who has hit a record 695 runs in this year's Big Bash - will take strike first.

Nic Maddinson is his opening partner.

And the Sixers are going to open the bowling with Australia off-spinner Nathan Lyon!

The covers were very briefly on. But the Stars openers are striding out to the middle now thankfully.

A quick turnaround and the Sixers players are back out on the field.

Steve Smith is mic'd-up for this innings.

He's saying they're around par or just under.

  16. Postpublished at 10:29 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2020

If the rain does return - and there is no sign of it right now - then the Stars need to bat for at least five overs to constitute a complete game.

So they'll need to keep an eye on the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern total as well.

  17. Postpublished at 10:25 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2020

Tough to call this at the halfway stage.

The Sixers were on top after six overs or so but the Stars dragged them back.

A bit of a flurry at the end has got the hosts to what is probably about par.

The Stars have the competition's top runscorer Marcus Stoinis set to open, with Glenn Maxwell also in the top order.

Get them early and the Sixers are on top. If not, the Stars could well be on course for their maiden Big Bash title.

  18. Postpublished at 10:21 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2020

Sixers batsman Jordan Silk is happy with that total and backs their bowlers to defend it.

Stars captain Glenn Maxwell is happy with it too but won't reveal where he'll be batting yet.

    Philippe b Zampa 52 (Sixers 116-5)

No big finish for Josh Philippe.

The Sixers opener moves to off to try and lap sweep Adam Zampa round the corner.

He misses, Zampa hits and that's the innings over.

Melbourne Stars need 117 off 12 overs to win the Big Bash.

  20. Sixers 116-4published at 11.5 overs

Josh Philippe scrambles back for two after picking the gap.

    One ball to go...
