    Sibley 90, Stokes 75

This must have been Jason Holder's fear. He bowls full and Stokes flicks him off the pad. The hard new cherry whistles past the fielder where other shots had dribbled into the outfield.

That's the second boundary of the day.

Not sure what to make of that, Chris. Maybe just take the positives. Nice work.

Chris Dennis: I bowled a 10-ball double wicket maiden at school. It was swinging so much I felt like I was aiming at the square leg umpire - some wouldn't swing and went straight to fine leg. The oppo couldn't lay a bat on it, except for two that they nicked, both to second slip.

West Indies have now taken the new ball. Finally.

The first ball with it is down the leg side from Jason Holder...

  5. Eng 224-3published at 93 overs

    Sibley 90, Stokes 71

A new one from Shannon Gabriel box of all sorts - a full toss that Stokes clips for a couple.

We've had 17 runs this morning in the 50 minutes of play. It has been tough going.

West Indies are obviously fearful that the new ball could travel. If this ball is swinging, you'd think a new ball, with the lacquer, would swing more.

  7. Sibley is a 'real hard worker'published at 11:48 British Summer Time 17 July 2020

England assistant coach Graham Thorpe on Sky Sports: "Both were pretty relaxed this morning; they've started with runs on the board."

On improving Sibley's technique against spin: "He's a real hard worker. He's really dilligent - he's got great powers of concentration. As coaches, we're trying to give them as many tools in their back pocket so they can handle different situations.

"These guys are good but we always try to make them constantly improve. You have to keep developing at this level because the opposition are always looking at you.

"We try to let them have fun in the nets - not to make it a chore, take the shackles off them in the practice arena, and let them know how adventurous they have to be in practice to try and develop new skills."

  8. Eng 221-3published at 92 overs

Holder's first over is a quiet one. What are West Indies' plans here? Are they just going to try and clog up the scoring for five days?

Has anyone told Gabriel that social distancing doesn't apply ball to batsman?

Is it not harsh on Harmison? He bowled to second slip once in his career. Gabriel has done it twice in this match! Poor Harmy. Maybe it should be renamed.

Holder has actually replaced Alzarri Joseph at the Jimmy Anderson End.

I had a message from Steve Harmison saying he loves that we describe a ball that's bowled to second slip as a "Harmison". It was making him chuckle while he was driving back from the golf course.

Jason Holder is warming up at slip having his arms around like a windmill. I think Gabriel may be put out of his misery soon.

Still no sign of the new ball.

You're in good form when you can dig out that yorker...

Ben Stokes gives the pitch a glare after one that nips back between his bat and his thigh pad. A good delivery from Gabriel. The seamer then goes in search of a full yorker and Stokes ends up flat on his front after digging it out.

Gabriel has a word. He's brilliantly angry.

I'm finding it a bit baffling that West Indies haven't taken the new ball. In fact, I'm amazed Gabriel hasn't demanded it.

  16. Eng 219-3published at 90 overs

    Sibley 90, Stokes 66

Oh, Alastair. Are you even allowed to admit to that on the BBC?

Sibley moves to 90 with a plonk off the back foot into the covers. It was hardly Brian Lara flogging away a short wide ball but it's two more to his total.

If it's safe, it'll be so good to get fans back. I have loved having cricket back would rather have it without spectators in the ground than not at all but it has not been the same.

Gabriel looks to be up and running with his radar now, beating the limpet-like Sibley twice in a row. Maybe he went for the classic turn it off and on again?
