He's going to need to find some extra nous in some conditions, but Sam Curran is an absolute golden arm in England!

Dom Bess will not get a better chance - the team have got a score that he, as a spinner, would want on the board. As a young off-spinner he has to come out and he would expect to deliver in these circumstances.

England opener Dom Sibley speaking to Sky Sports after scoring his second Test hundred: "Great feeling. Sometimes you think one is a fluke but to get two is a great feeling. It has put us in a great position in the Test match more importantly."

On his 260-run partnership with fellow centurion Ben Stokes: "We had a big partnership in Cape Town as well. He turned it on after he got his hundred and took the pressure of me. It is great to bat with Stokesy."

On the match situation: "This morning we wanted to make sure we batted for a long part of the day. They bowled really well in the morning. It was a case of getting through that and setting a good foundation.

"We didn't expect it to spin as much as it has done but hopefully Bessy can spin the wheel tomorrow. To get one wicket there was a massive bonus."

  8. 'Stokes will average well over 40'published at 19:11 British Summer Time 17 July 2020

    Michael Vaughan
Ex-England captain on BBC Test Match Special

Ben Stokes is the all round package in terms of the way he can play. Stokes, at the minute, is England's best batsman, without question. His mentality, his control. everything about his play, is of a top order batsman.

You could argue his best years are still ahead of him. We've seen some incredible moments but I think he will be at this kind of consistency now for the next few years. I have no doubt that he will end his Test career with an average of well over 40.

Alzarri Joseph tried his best to make it two down - you don't expect to see your nightwatchman playing those shots! That is his character. He believes in himself. Sometimes it's misplaced, like with the bat, but it's how he feels he is best for the team, and he's made it through.

    It was so out.

    England have missed out.

Still, that shouldn't take away from a superb day for the hosts.

That's out. It hit the toe first.

  16. WI 32-1published at 13.5 overs

Oh, England may have missed one right at the end. A yorker from Sam Curran clips the boot before bat right in front of the stumps. There wasn't much of an appeal but I think it would have been out had England reviewed.

  17. WI 32-1published at 13.4 overs

Alzarri Joseph fancies himself as a batsman.

He may be out as nightwatchman and it may be the final over but he tries to pull Sam Curran.

He gets a top edge over the keeper. Joseph has 14 from 16 balls.

  18. WI 28-1published at 13.1 overs

Brathwaite gets a single to get down to the non-striker's end. It'll be down to Alzarri Joseph for the final five deliveries.

What an extraordinary innings this is by a nightwatchman! A remarkable shot.

  20. WI 27-1published at 13 overs

Alzarri Joseph is taking a novel approach to nightwatchman-ing (if that's not a word it is now). First he nearly chips a catch back to Dom Bess and then he lofts him over extra cover for a couple.

We'll have one more over today.
