Jos Buttler is learning how to play Test match cricket. If you're like him you've got so many decisions to make because he can play in so many ways. Since he's come back into the team he's barely played a Buttler-esque innings. He's still discovering, and what is so exciting when it works is that he's so expansive and can change a game in a session.

No big shots needed or warranted against the miserly Jason Holder and Jos Buttler blocks him out well.

That's the Buttler of old. It wasn't a violent shot, it was just beautifully timed.

    Oh my, that's even better.

Jos Buttler absolutely banjaxes it against the advertising hoarding just below the second deck of the stands.

A rare moment when it's perhaps good there is no crowd in - that would've peppered someone on the head.

Although you do miss the roar that shot deserved.

Joseph Charles Buttler, come on down.

England's keeper has bedded himself in and got the measure of Rahkeem Cornwall.

Tossed up on middle stump and Buttler bashes it into the stands.

Ollie Pope was made in a lab in Loughborough and isn't actually real.

    Pope 62, Buttler 18

It's also been a very mature innings from the 22-year-old Ollie Pope.

Jason Holder is bowling a tight line and length, with not many opportunities for scoring.

But Pope spots he's pushed one just wide enough of cover to pick up a single and rotate the strike.

And, fittingly, here is a pull shot from Ricky Pontiff...

Jim: I thought Ollie Pope’s nickname was Ricky Pontiff? Coined by a cricket writer on Twitter. Apologies that I can’t remember who to give the credit.

And that's a tidy over from Cornwall, just a sharp single from Pope off the last.

Wide again from Gabriel. Four again from Pope.

He's enjoying himself out there. A very impressive knock so far.
