Joe Root batted well but that wasn't short enough to cut. He battled hard, he was showing the discipline that he played with in New Zealand when he scored 200. That's a big disappointment for England.

It was too close and too full to play that shot. He'll be really annoyed with himself with that shot.
Root c Rizwan b Yasir 14 (Eng 62-4)
Ahem. As I was saying.
This is a poor shot from Joe Root and he knows it. It's full, Root decides he wants to run it down to third man, and instead a tickle of an outside edge ends up nestling comfortably in Mohammad Rizwan's gloves. With 30 minutes left in the day, that's a 'mare of a dismissal.

The sun is now out. It's glorious.
Ooft. Ugly from Joe Root, getting down on one knee and hoicking at Yasir Shah, and an under edge just bounces past the stumps.
That's much better, a firm push off the back foot, and it brings up the 50 parternship from 88 balls. England aren't letting Yasir settle.

Pope was just tempted, he had a nibble. It's not the type of shot to be playing at this time in the day.
Misbah ul-Haq might have the best beard in cricket. Superb.
He's watching on from the stands alongside Mushtaq Ahmed as Naseem Shah tempts Ollie Pope into a wild flay outside off stump.
Ollie Pope is great.

Shot! Another four to Ollie Pope, this time rocking back and thrashing a huge cut away off Yasir Shah.
Joe Root goes down and lap-sweeps Yasir Shah but it's a little more aerial than he intended, and he's lucky that there's no leg slip in place for the grab.

If the umpires decided to walk off for light now, Root would not be disappointed.

It wasn't perfectly struck by Pope but it was a lovely shot. Showing his talent once again.
Four for Ollie Pope, timing the pants off a cover drive that flies past two leaping fielders.
Joe Root, not having quite as much fun as Pope, watches a ball swing outrageously past his bat from Naseem Shah before heading down to give the pitch a suspicious prod.

An enthusiastic appeal for lbw against Joe Root, but I think it's pitched outside leg stump and the umpire is having none of it. It spun back in, mind...
And now the ball turns the other way, bouncing and just missing the outside edge of Root's bat, before Root helps a full toss away to the four with a nicely timed sweep.
A change for Pakistan, with Yasir Shah replacing Mohammad Abbas, and his first ball is hoicked away for two by Ollie Pope.
Naseem Shah was three months old when Jimmy Anderson made his Test debut.
And no, I will not be pointing that out to Jimmy.

That was a beautiful shot. Authentic drive, perfectly timed. Naseem Shah and Ollie Pope could be playing against each other for years to come.
Shot!
Overpitched from Naseem Shah, albeit at 90mph, and Ollie Pope barely has to move to send it rumbling back down the ground for four.

David Fisher: What a joy it would be to watch this magnificent Pakistan place attack if I weren't English. Naseem Shah has only bowled one over but goodness me he's a special talent.
Kevin Ticehurst: I’ve been looking forward to watching Naseem Shah for a while, would of been there for day three to see him live, gutted that we won’t be seeing this genuine talent.
