England have Ben Stokes, a player who can change the game. Ollie Pope, Joe Root, they have the players. But with scoreboard pressure, if Pakistan can get 20 or 25 runs, they will be happy.

  3. 'Not your typical English wicket'published at 19:26 British Summer Time 7 August 2020

England batsman Ollie Pope speaking to TMS: "The bowling went as well as it could. We bowled nicely and backed up with the field. The wicket has offered a little bit for both seam and spin.

"It's not your typical English wicket. It spun from the get go and bounced a little bit as well. We're going to have to find ways to cope with that.

"Pakistan bowlers have a little bit of everything; Abass' skills, the pace of Naseem and Shaheen. With any new series, once you get used to their style and bowling things will get easier.

"Buttler played nicely and showing great signs against WI, he's batting nicely. It's not easy standing up and keeping on that wicket, with that extra spin and bounce. With those nicks sometimes it's a matter of whether they'll stick or not. That's keeping, you need a bit of luck."

First time ever I have looked down and thought Jimmy looks old. He just had one of those days, I hope, and that he can come back from that.

It was important for England to get Babar Azam. Mohammad Rizwan and Shadab Khan played well but England have bowled very well. But they gave a bit of a chance by bowling the spinner a bit too much.

England were under the cosh but they fought back admirably with the ball, claiming seven Pakistan wickets in the evening session.

The bowling this week has been good, they fought hard with the bat, especially Pope and Butler this morning. They showed the temperament and technique for Test cricket.

But dropped catches, fumbles in the field, there's been a few. The catching and fielding may let them down.

I think we'll get an ending tomorrow one way or another.

There was some late entertainment from Stuart Broad - when isn't there? - but ultimately England were dismissed for 219, trailing Pakistan by 107 runs.

It's been a really good Test to watch. Mainly Pakistan have been on top but England have fought back in that session.

Batting on this wicket last will not be easy at all. The 250 odd chase will take some effort. You look at Headingley last year, that was a different pitch, it quietened down. I don't think this one will, it will spin.

    Let's recap, shall we?

It was not an easy morning or afternoon for England, who lost Ollie Pope in the first session before Yasir Shah spun the innings on its head.

This is beautifully set up. The way the pitch is playing, and with the Pakistan attack, they are favourites tomorrow. But England have given themselves a chance.

It's paid off and it's down to Ben Stokes. He's the one driving this, telling the captain that he wants the ball and wants to win the game. It's great to have a player in your team who is like this. Let's hope it doesn't have any ramifications on his fitness for the next two Tests.

    Shaheen c Burns b Stokes 2 (Pak 137-8)

Too good for poor Shaheen Afridi.

He tries to duck a bumper from Ben Stokes but leaves his bat dangling in the air like a periscope. The ball hits the shoulder of the bat, maybe a touch of glove, and Rory Burns tears in from gully to take the catch.
