Root was looking in good nick. He's pacing up and down in the dressing rooms and shaking his head.

Tea will be taken at 15:55 BST so still just over an hour to go in this session. Ollie Pope, who batted superbly in the first innings, is the new man in.

It is a big wicket. Naseem is bowling quick but has found just a little bit of lateral movement. On a slow pitch it has carried comfortably to first slip.

The England captain has gone and that's a huge wicket. The young Naseem Shah bowls the perfect line with a little bit of movement off the turf and reels Root in, Babar Azam taking an easy catch at slip.

    Advantage Pakistan.

I think this is the best Root has batted all summer, this is a superb innings. This is a high pressure situation and he's batting extremely skillfully. The last time I saw him bat like this was against Australia in the fifth Test at Sydney in 2018. He was ill but it was an extraordinary display of batmanship.

Well, that's one way to counteract Yasir Shah. Whereas Dom Sibley opted to pad away those round the wicket Yasir deliveries, Joe Root plays a scrumptious reverse-sweep for four.

Stuart Windle: Why all the fuss about the Pakistan players making noise? They're passionate, they want to win. I want England to win. It's a great Test match, just enjoy it.

  9. Eng 91-2published at 37 overs

A single from Joe Root brings Ben Stokes on strike to face Naseem Shah. Stokes is on a pair in this Test but is off the mark with a boundary, an intentional thick edge down to third man.

The Pakistan noise levels had gone down a notch or two before that wicket but they've found their voice again. They know how important these two batsmen are to England's run chase.

Sibley looked so frustrated with himself as he left the field.

Ben Stokes the new batsman in.

Great bowling from Yasir Shah. He has changed the angle, bowling over the wicket and round.

It was there to hit but I thought Sibley tried to hit it too hard.

Oh dear. Dom Sibley had batted so patiently and looked fairly comfortable against Yasir Shah but he's gone.

Sibley, looking to drive through the covers, edges it to Asad Shafiq at slip. It was a bit of a wild shot and Pakistan have the breakthrough.

If you were to try to describe the fascination cricket to someone who knows nothing about it, Dom Sibley kicking away Yasir Shah's round-the-wicket leggies would be the among the hardest to explain.

Joe Root plays the cut shot beautifully as he carves Yasir Shah for four.

That was not a good delivery. Joe Root does not miss those.

Naseem Shah continues and that's a smart shot from Joe Root. He arches his back and effortlessly guides it down to the third man boundary. Four more.

We've had 50 mins after lunch and it's been England's session so far.

I've had a quick look and it's 34 degrees out in Islamabad right now (it's 6.30pm there), James.

Dom Sibley misses out on a full toss from Yasir Shah which he should dispatch to the boundary but can only get two runs.

How we all feeling about this now? England are going along nicely.

Eng need 205 more runs to win

The 17-year-old wonderkid Naseem Shah replaces Mohammad Abbas.

He does find the edge of Root's bat but the ball falls well short of first slip. The Pakistan slip cordon seem to be too far back, the ball isn't really carrying at any catchable height.

A tidy line and over, two from it.

There was just one wicket for Naseem in the first innings, but it was the important dismissal of Ollie Pope...
