Arjun Singh: I always smile at the nicknames people give to players. Root becomes Rooty. Stokes becomes Stokesy. But Sibley? You’d think they’d stick to the pattern, but no, it becomes Sibbers. Love it.

So England need to score 277 runs to win. A tough ask. Opening duo Dom Sibley and Rory Burns made a solid enough yet slow start...

JD: Hope England don't display same after-lunch rubbish they have in the first three days of this Test. If they do, it will be all over by tea. If they eat less stodge at lunch, and concentrate on job in hand rather than their puddings, England could make a fist of it.

And then Stuart Broad was the recipient of this huge Yasir six…

Pakistan in the driving seat here and favourites. But this isn’t over. Let’s have a look back at this morning’s play.

As England munched down a continental breakfast at the Old Trafford hotel this morning, they will have discussed the importance of cleaning up the Pakistan tail and conceding few runs.

Well, it didn’t go to plan. It was a nightmare start for the hosts and Yasir Shah had some fun.

There were two boundaries from Jofra Archer’s opening over of the day…

If one comes across kids playing cricket in Pakistan (which I have been fortunate to see) it's like football. Huge racket, lots of participants, all ages. It's wonderful! Tedious for a batsman I'm sure but don't tell me the Barmy Army doesn't drive the opposition mad sometimes?!

    Nice one, Matt.

World championship boxing last night, Champions League football yesterday and today, the World Snooker Championship, Formula 1, US PGA Championship golf and…

A thrilling Test heading towards a result.

It’s like sport never really went away. And I’m loving it.

Right then. I'm going to make the very short walk to our fridge.

Kal Sajad will take you through the break and the afternoon session. It could be another nail-biter.

Pakistan bowled well in that session and England could have easily lost more than one wicket.

Those 32 runs added this morning by Pakistan are looking crucial.

England will feel very happy with the morning's session.

  12. Lunch - Eng 55-1published at 22 overs

    Target 277

    This really is tantalisingly poised.

England need 222 more runs to win at lunch on day four.

  13. Eng 53-1published at 21.3 overs

This may be the last over before the break. Sibley leaves a ball that turns a mile outside off.

  14. Eng 51-1published at 21 overs

    Target 277

I'm going to disagree with you here, Jim. I think it all adds to the theatre and entertainment. The more noise the better, within reason.

Shadab's bowls an iffy over - a full toss gives Sibley three - but ends it with a good ball that nearly catches Root out.

I know there has always been a bit of chirping out there in the middle but this Pakistan team are way too noisy. Anyone who puts a big innings today deserves massive credit just for putting up with their excessive wailing and shouting.

It's leg spin from both ends now with Shadab Khan into the attack.

You can hear the noise around the bat, there is always a lot of theatre and noise around the bat when great spinners bowl. You have to contend with that as a batsman.

  18. Eng 47-1published at 20 overs

This is good from Root. He follows that boundary with a nice push and he jogs down to the other end. Root has often looked good in these situations in recent years before making an error and grumpily stomping off. Can he cut out the error today?

So good from Joe Root. It gives you an insight into how he is going to go against the bowlers.

  20. Eng 46-1published at 19.2 overs

Joe Root clobbers a sweep for four. If you all England fans go to your windows and shout "Roooooot" he might hear you.
