You can't help but feel that luck is on Pakistan's side at the moment.
England have had their failings with the two drops, but the ball has hit the stumps and not dislodged the balls and now Azhar Ali is turned square on by Sam Curran but the edge falls well sort of Joe Root at first slip.
I suppose you earn your luck in muggy, floodlit day one conditions.
The floodlights are on at the Ageas Bowl.
Hopefully I'm wrong, but it feels like a matter of time before the weather hits.

BBC Test Match Special
One of the things as a slip fielder is the surprise - the fact you can be waiting three hours and then the ball comes to you.
A maiden for Chris Woakes.
The Pakistan captain, Azhar Ali, is battling hard for his side. He's up to 11 off 41 balls.
Here's that moment from earlier where the ball went in between Azhar Ali's pads and towards the stumps.
The ball actually hit the base of the stumps but with nowhere near enough pace to knock the bails off.
Sam Curran has been tidy but largely ineffective so far.
He's getting movement - but it's largely from the hand, rather than late movement which is making it pretty easy for the Pakistan pair.
The partnership is worth 37 now.
Sam Curran has taken 22 wickets at an average of 22.63 in England, and 18 at 43.05 apiece away from home.
Sam Curran will continue after the drinks break.
I'm glad you asked!
As we have throughout this summer the BBC will have an hour-long highlights programme each evening.
However, the first airing is on BBC Four for the vast majority of this Test due to the World Snooker Championships.

Simon Goodall: Deary me. Yet another slip catch dropped. I think the England team are putting too much butter on their toast at breakfast.
BÖÖM!: Sibley and Burns need big runs to make up for those regulation catches - shockingly poor.

That was an absolute shocker. He had plenty of time to see it. Two down this morning and two that have carried nicely.
Pak 41-1
Hmmm, Pakistan may be the happier of the two sides after the first hour.
England's bowling has been pretty good, but they've been let down by their colleagues in the slip cordon so far.
This is another pretty poor drop from England - it's Rory Burns, at second slip, this time.
Chris Woakes draws Abid Ali into playing and a thick edge flies to Burns' left, around chest height. It goes in but it pops out. Jos Buttler tries to dive forward to catch the rebound but he can't quite reach it.

It's getting darker at the Ageas. The clouds are still high for now.

I feel like the Pakistan batsmen are starting to find their balance and timing.
Sam Curran is starting to find more swing now. He goes full, almost yorker length, but Azhar Ali does well to jam it out. The Pakistan captain has a wry grin on his face in response.
Curran playing may help create some rough for Dom Bess later in the game. Problem is, it'll also create rough for Yasir Shah and England will (unless they post a mammoth-first innings lead) have to bat last on this pitch.

Jamesxfm: Is England’s slip catching the worst in the world? Seem to never have a day without a clanger or two.

I'm glad they didn't go for a review there, it was very high.
Abid 17, Azhar 8
Chris Woakes has bowled well this summer hasn't he? He starts well as Azhar Ali is caught on the crease and is wrapped on the pads. It's a little bit too high but the ball falls between his legs and trickles towards the stumps.
Woakes starts to raise his hand in celebration, constantly trying to peer round the batsman to see if the bails were dislodged. They weren't - the ball hit the stumps but not with enough power to knock them off.
A wayward end sees Abid pick up four down to fine leg.
