With the game set to be further affected by the weather in the next four days England will want to bowl Pakistan out as quickly and cheaply as possible in the morning.

They'll then set about batting deep and hopefully making this a three-innings game.

It was a difficult day for Pakistan. They won the toss is blue skies but it wasn't long before grey ledden skies covered the Ageas Bowl and the floodlights were on.

Add in the on-off nature of the day with the rain and they've battled hard to reach 126-5.

They'll resume in the morning with Babar Azam on 25 and Mohammad Rizwan on four.

We've lost 44.2 overs today - that means we're going to have 98 a day for the remainder of the Test.

Well, rain and light permitting so I wouldn't be too confident we'll get them all in at any stage.

After being put into field this morning I'm sure Joe Root will be delighted to reduce Pakistan to 126-5.

It could have been even better if England had held onto their catches this morning.

    And that's that!

The umpires have made the call that the light isn't good enough and called time on day one.

I mean, what is going on here?

We have to be playing by 19:00 BST and there's no sign of them clearing up.

Call it off for the day!

The umpires are still out there. I think they're just enjoying a chat. It's not raining but there is no sense we're going to see any more play.

Azhar Ali is under intense pressure back in Pakistan for his captaincy and batting. England bowled well at him. Getting 20 shows technique but you expect more and people will be looking at him under a microscope.

If the pitch flattens out, loses the moisture and the sun comes out, let's hope England don't regret leaving out the 90mph weapon.

Stuart Broad: 1-31 from 13 overs

Sam Curran: 1-23 from 10 overs

England will be well pleased, whoever made the decision with Sum Curran coming into the side. The forecast for the match seems to be muggy and they have left out the 90mph bowler. The swing bowlers soon came into play.

It's still very dark over to the north. The west, which is where the sun should be, is covered by cloud.

The umpires are out in the middle talking.

It has got a little bit brighter but there are worrying skies in the distance.

The umpires are coming out again but there is a rather terminal feel about this because they are not coming out in their umpires' coats. There is a conference out in the middle.

Dan Greaves: Not sure it's quite the same as Fawad's, but I recall Kim Barnett having an interesting stance. He seemed to take his guard closer to the square leg umpire than the stumps, and then took a big stride across as the bowler entered his delivery stride.

It's all very frustrating because it hasn't rained since they've been off. It's just the light. It's not light enough and I suspect that will be the case for the rest of the day.
