Pakistan are unchanged from the last Test - unsurprising, given that we only got a day and a half's worth of play.

Absolutely typical. Everything in place. Not exactly pleasant, but not wet, either. Out come the skippers, then it starts raining. It left Joe Root and Azhar Ali standing around in the rain, nothing to do but have a chat. In blazers over their whites, the look like executives at a convention of ice cream men.

The world-class leg-spinner, the new star fast bowler and the century-making opener. Yasir Shah, Naseem Shah and Shan Masood told Test Match Special's Aatif Nawaz about life in the cricket bubble, facing James Anderson and Stuart Broad, missing their fans and more.

I think it's a good move to start play earlier the next day if rain comes into play. The powers that be will have been listening to television and radio last week. We were all grumpy because we wanted to see a bit more cricket. It's a sensible move.

I feel like I might burst into tears if I spend any longer thinking about rain delays and bad light protocols, but...

Flexible start times have been agreed for this Test, after the second one was decimated by the weather.

If time is lost on a particular day, officials will have the option of starting play 30 minutes earlier on the following day.

That means action could begin at 10:30 BST, rather than the usual 11:00.

I would bat first. The wind isn't easy for the fast bowlers running in.

I think it's stopped raining - Joe Root and Azhar Ali are blazered up and out for the toss, anyway.

  13. Weather forecastpublished at 10:29 British Summer Time 21 August 2020

BBC weatherman Simon King on TMS: "It is very, very windy out there. We're talking about 50 to 60mph gusts of wind, which is unusually high for this time of the year.

"There are still a few showers around at the moment. On a whole though, the clouds are moving along quickly so they will be brief showers and there will be some dry and sunny spells in the afternoon.

"On Saturday and Sunday, it is looking dry and no prospects of any showers. It's days four and five the showers will pick up, particularly on Tuesday."

  16. 'We have to give everything to the badge, team & each other'published at 10:25 British Summer Time 21 August 2020

England captain Joe Root, speaking to BBC Sport: "My message to the guys has been quite simple. We don't know the next time we will play Test cricket, so let's throw everything into this week.

"We've not got Test cricket until next year. We've got no excuses, every opportunity to go out there and throw everything into this last game.

"We have one more week of really hard graft. We have to give everything to the badge, the team and each other."

England have named an unchanged 14-man squad for this Test.

It basically comes down to Dom Bess v Sam Curran v Mark Wood, as it's more than likely Jofra Archer will return for England.
