That's 6,000 Test runs for Azhar Ali in his 81st match.

  4. Pak 105-5published at 48 overs

The first ball is at 83mph and Archer generally starts to bowl a little quicker with each delivery. But he's still only reaching around the 86/87mph mark. I mean the term 'only' is used slightly tongue-in-cheek there.

A wide one is steered to the boundary for four by Azhar Ali. And the Pakistan batsman raises his bat to acknowledge some applause from his team-mates. He has reached 6,000 Test runs.

In comes Jofra Archer. Bowling under the dark clouds which Stephan mentions. I wouldn't want to be Azhar or Rizwan.

James Anderson turned away in disgust. That was a genuine edge, it just didn't carry. It shows that the pitch is a bit tired. You've just got to keep plugging away.

It's just got very dark, very quickly. There's a filthy cloud hanging overhead.

Jimmy Anderson doesn't have a single grey hair on his head - yet he's 38, has children and plenty of miles on the clock cricket-wise. Quite some achievement if he's not coloured them in!

A half-hearted appeal for lbw against Mohammad Rizwan is turned down - remember, England have burned all of their reviews already.

Who came up with the term 'burned' in this instance? Probably the same person who coined 'let's rock and roll it'.

The final delivery is nicked by Rizwan but drops just short of Jos Buttler.

Azhar Ali is playing nicely and with more control.

  10. Pak 101-5published at 46 overs

    Azhar 40, Rizwan 9

Oh, hello! Stuart Broad finds some extra bounce from a a length delivery which jumps up on Azhar Ali and carries through to Jos Buttler at chest height. Azhar did well to get his hands out of the way.

Two runs to Azhar brings up the 100 for Pakistan.

Anderson has this perenially irritable face when he's bowling. I love it. "Here I am, bowling into the wind again..."

  12. Pak 99-5published at 45 overs

Anderson walks back to his mark after every ball with that grimace that we've all become accustomed to.

Jimmy bowls full and angled into the stumps as Pakistan take three from the over. The wait for wicket number 598 goes on.

Dave Amitri: I am so happy for Jos Butler. There's no doubt with him in the side and in form England are better. Spare a thought for Ben Foakes a phenomenal keeper who has mastered his craft but will have to now wait for an age or injury to Buttler. Professional sport is tough.

Dom Bess leaked some runs in his last few overs, so Joe Root brings James Anderson back into the attack.

Stuart Broad was imploring the umpire but England have no reviews. I didn't hear anything, but you even got the hand wave from Broad, which is a fairly good sign of enthusiasm.

  16. Pak 96-5published at 44 overs

Mohammad Rizwan firmly pushes Stuart Broad down to mid-off but Jofra Archer dives down well to field.

There's a huge appeal for lbw as Broad has one nipping back into Rizwan. Broad, unsurprisingly, is convinced but umpire Illingworth is not. England don't have any reviews left.

However, replays show it hit the pad outside the line.

That last ball was the round arm delivery Dom Bess had. He tried to fire it in and it ended up being a gift. It deserved to go for four.

  18. Pak 96-5published at 43 overs

    Azhar 37, Rizwan 7

It was so good to see Test cricket returning to Pakistan in the series against Sri Lanka at the end of last year. The passion and love for the sport from their home fans is just incredible.

Azhar Ali sweeps down to square leg for another boundary. Pakistan are easily finding that gap and picking up boundaries so Joe Root tinkers with his field.

So what happens? Bess goes wide of the off stump and Azhar finds the newly-created gap at backward point.

Shortly after this series, Pakistan will be playing at home against Zimbabwe. There's been rumblings about other things too, so it should be a busy winter for Pakistan.

  20. Pak 88-5published at 42 overs

Stuart Broad is averaging 13 with the ball this summer. The way he has comeback from being dropped from that first Test against West Indies is admirable.

A maiden for Broad as Rizwan prods and defends the over.
