It has been a frustrating summer for Dom Bess because he hasn't had many left-handers to bowl to. He seems to be struggling to keep it out there to the right-handers. It's a little flat and a little straight.

  2. Pak 88-5published at 41 overs

    Azhar 29, Rizwan 7

There's cries of "catch it" from England's fielders as Dom Bess has one turning in to Mohammad Rizwan, the ball flicks the top of the front pad and it goes through the hands of Jos Buttler.

Rizwan is then off the mark by taking a huge stride forward and sweeping down to the square leg boundary for four. Ollie Pope, at square leg, wisely takes cover.

Another sweep, down to fine leg, and that's three more to Rizwan.

  5. Pak 79-5published at 40 overs

    Azhar 29, Rizwan 0

'He's the world's best but Lancashire first' - just reading that out loud, I can hear the passion with which you say it.

Stuart Broad does indeed return for his ninth over. He bowls on middle and leg, looking for that lbw dismissal that Azhar Ali is so prone to, but Azhar gets his feet in a good position to clip through leg side for two runs.

Broad then does him with a cracking delivery, a wobble seam which nips away from the batsman and whistles past the bat.

Andrew Stone: England v India, Lords, 2011, day 5. Queued round the block in the hope of an improbable run-chase and a 100th international century for Tendulkar. Anderson spoilt the party with a swinging masterclass 5-fer.

Carola Groom: Aigburth, Liverpool. 2011, Lancs v Yorks, the season Lancs would finally win county championship. Lancs won a 20/20 style final run chase. Jimmy's celebration, on the balcony, was FEARSOME. He's the world's best but Lancashire first.

If it wasn't for social distancing, I'd ask you to sneak behind him and have a peek over his shoulder, Stephan.

Dom Bess offers plenty of flight to Azhar Ali. The Pakistan captain has played the spinner pretty well as he flicks one to mid-wicket for a single.

I've come to the conclusion that Younis Khan is doing fake writing in his notebook.

  10. Pak 76-5published at 38 overs

That could very well be the case, Richard. Next in for Pakistan is Yasir Shah, who we know can smack it around a bit, but there is very little batting to come after that.

A single to Azhar Ali brings Mohammad Rizwan on strike. Rizwan remains on nought as Woakes bowls a tight line.

Two more wickets then bring Jimmy back in to clean up the tail for 600 Test wickets?

Given the weather forecast, ideally Pakistan would be around 13 down by the end of today.

    Azhar 25, Rizwan 0

Mohammad Rizwan the new man in. Bess looked delighted with that wicket and Jos Buttler is clearly a man oozing confidence.

One more wicket here and Pakistan could be in big trouble, they have a long tail.

Look at the catch. That is improvement straight away for Jos Buttler. It's the same as the catch he dropped at Old Trafford a few weeks ago. It was well bowled by Dom Bess and the ball looked as though it melted in Buttler's gloves.

That was very nicely taken by Jos Buttler. It really went - turn, bounce, and too good for Fawad. That looked a brute of a ball.

  15. wicket

    Fawad c Buttler b Bess 21 (Pak 75-5)

Dom Bess finds some spin and Fawad Alam edges into the gloves of Jos Buttler.

Good bowling from Bess as he reels the batsman forward, it bounces and turns. A smart take from the England wicketkeeper.

Fawad grafted hard but his innings comes to an end.

The wind has whipped up again, blowing down the ground from the end the fast bowlers are operating, with Dom Bess being asked to wheel away into the breeze. At the Waca they have the Freemantle Doctor, but I'm not sure what the Southampton equivalent would be. The floodlights are on, arguably needlessly. The grey clouds are being pushed along at a decent lick, and there's some clear sky behind.

That was the first sign of latural movement in a very long time.

  18. Pak 75-4published at 36 overs

A better over from Chris Woakes, a nice line and just back of a length as Azhar Ali shoulders his arms and allows the ball to pass his off stump.

Woakes then finds a hint of movement from the turf and Azhar does well to play inside the line and not nick it.

Dom Bess can rush himself sometimes. He has so much energy and he so wants to do well.
