I don't think I've ever seen a captain with the same authority as Morgan, he has earned that.

England captain Eoin Morgan on TMS: "It's absolutely fantastic to get the juices flowing again playing international cricket. David Willey always puts his heart and soul into it and his skill level today was second to none. For Sam Billings to come in was fantastic, we're a little bit spoilt but to produce it when the opportunity came and when we needed it - hats off to him."

England bowler David Willey, who took 5-30, at the post-match presentation: "I wasn't sure whether my opportunity would come again, I absolutely loved being out there, wearing the Three Lions again, and wickets are just a bonus."

On missing out on the World Cup: "To miss out at the eleventh hour was difficult. The situation with covid has probably got me the opportunity, but you don't know if it will be the last time. I'm enjoying playing cricket again.

"As it got close to the World Cup selection you probably were thinking about that, it's been and gone now. The lads did exceptional, however many games I play now I want to enjoy them. I play my best cricket when I'm enjoying it and that's first and foremost for me at the moment."

Ireland captain Andrew Balbirnie at the post-match presentation: "It's a very disappointing day, we didn't assess conditions well enough. You can't afford a start like that against a team like England. maybe there was a touch of rust but we need to be able to assess conditions and adapt quicker.

"They bowled pretty well up front but we played pretty loosely. Curtis Campher came in and assessed conditions well and dug in. 170 is never going to be enough against England, though."

You want to make sure you win all three against Ireland because in terms of the Super League, you are going to drop a few against the bigger teams.

More from England captain Eoin Morgan: "The more times we can see guys in pressure situations, the more we get to find out about them. Some guys didn't come off but in the next two games hopefully we'll be put under more significant pressure because we want these guys to push to be in our best 15."

On the depth: "It is a great feeling and it's down the 17-18 we've used in the last few years. You've got to do something special to get in the last 15. We'll probably rotate the bowling department, it's a tight turnaround so we'll see how they pull up. The batting department should stay the same."

Winning the toss and bowling fist isn't necessarily always easy at a ground like this but David had an outstanding day. Given the story of where he's been in the last year, it's a fantastic story and comeback. He's always shown a lot of heart and soul but his skill-set today was exceptional.

"Him and Saqib Mahmood were outstanding, we pegged Ireland back. When chasing a low score it's always nice to get a partnership. we're delighted to be out playing, delighted Ireland have come and delighted to start the series with a win."

Why would you take your foot off the gas? The target has to be to win every game.

Ireland captain Andy Balbirnie on TMS: "We didn't adapt and that was what was required to get a good score. Campher came in and had great application so I'm delighted for him. I thought we bowled tidily having lost Barry in the first over, but when you have a sniff against a world class line-up and we couldn't do that. It's unlikely Barry will play on Saturday with such a quick turnaround."

I think England might rotate one or two bowlers, Reece Topley might come in, but they'll probably go with a similar side and try to seal the series.

Worth remembering that he wasn't set to play today, according to Eoin Morgan at the toss. The injury that Joe Denly suffered in training yesterday opened up an opportunity for Billings.

A decent day for England, they would have ideally liked the top order to finish the job but congratulations to Sam Billings. It was a lovely knock to watch, he soaked up the pressure and it was a thoroughly professional performance.

Sam Billings finishes unbeaten on 67 off 54 balls while captain Morgan is not out on 36 off 40.

That is Billings highest score in international one-day cricket.

Despite the top-order wobble that's a pretty emphatic win by England in the end.

They win with 133 balls to spare thanks to a 96-run partnership between Eoin Morgan and Sam Billings.
