  1. Ire 89-7published at 27 overs

"Very good this, boys" chirps up Jonny Bairstow behind the stumps. I think I've heard more of the Yorkshireman in the last two hours than of Jos Buttler in the last three weeks during the West Indies Test series.

Just a single apiece for Curtis Campher and Andy McBrine.

Here's how Kevin O'Brien fell for 22. A soft, soft dismssal.

  3. Ire 87-7published at 26 overs

I must admit at 28-5 I started researching Eoin Morgan's average at the Ageas Bowl because I had memories of him doing very well at the ground. At 76.25 I thought there was a chance England could send him out there on his own to chase down the total set by Ireland.

Just a quick single comes off Adil Rashid's eighth over.

    Thanks JL.

Have England been very good or Ireland poor?

More the latter I think. Kevin O'Brien shouldn't be playing that shot at 79-5 with almost 30 overs to go and that run out is an absolute horror.

  5. Ire 86-7published at 25 overs

Another steady over from Moeen and Ireland have reached the halfway mark. Campher is still there impressing on debut on 28. How many more can he add? Over to Callum Matthews to find out.

This is the sorry state of the Ageas Bowl bars in 2020. They’ve become an extra shed for the groundstaff.

  7. Ire 83-7published at 24 overs

It's been one of favourite things watching the football to shout "ooh there's not many there." No we don't get out much. Rashid getting some nice fizz on the ball now, 1-17 off 7.

Apart from a few Ireland players who have drifted down into seats below the dressing room, it is just TV camera operators, a handful of groundstaff and the odd ECB official in the ground.

Some are taking shelter under umbrellas. It’s really, really warm.

Navneet Gautam: Ireland are so rusty. I was so ready for a good ODI but this has been abysmal from Ireland. I don't think England have bowled particularly well, they've just kept it simple and done the basics.

  10. Ire 81-7published at 23 overs

Andy McBrine is the new man, with a highest of 79. His team would welcome that now.

I was slightly traumatised at 28-5 and then things calmed down a bit but now I'm back in trauma mode.

  12. Ire 79-7published at 22 overs

So after that positive fifty partnership, two wickets in the over. Nervous times for the Irish.

I think it was nerves because there wasn't a run there. That's another calamity.

Singh run out 0 (Ire 79-7)

Simi Singh is the new batsman but he doesn't last long. He's run out in a dreadful mix-up. Whether it was nerves who knows, but why he thought there was a run to short cover is anyone's guess. His partner certainly didn't think so and sent him back, but the bails were already off.

I was just about to say since I've left that the Ireland have done alright. I wonder if they can get through my next little stint without losing another five wickets.

You can't keep David Willey out of the action!

    O'Brien c Willey b Rashid 22 (Ire 79-6)

A partnership of 51 comes to an end as O'Brien lofts one straight to long-off and Willey is in the action again.

There may be just a smattering of people in the ground but music is still being pumped out of the sound system at the fall of a wicket, when a boundary is hit and at the end of an over.

They're still trying to keep some sort of atmosphere.

  19. Ire 79-5published at 21 overs

Moeen Ali comes into the attack for some off-spin, the sun glistening off his head. Steady first over.

Keen for Ireland to get enough of a total that Bairstow and Roy don't polish it off too quickly and we actually get to see Banton and others bat.
