Steven Croft makes a very diligent 63 for Lancashire but falls lbw to Leicestershire skipper Colin Ackermann.

It's been slow going at New Road since the departure of Dane Vilas but the Red Rose are in a decent position as we approach the final few overs of the day.

  2. Somerset all out for 296published at 17:50 British Summer Time 1 August 2020

    Somerset 296 v Glamorgan

And just like that Glamorgan finally bring the fun to an end.

Jack Brooks loops one up in the air and is already walking off by the time Graham Wagg takes the catch off his own bowling.

That 107-run was great while it lasted but Somerset are all out for 296 at Taunton.

Earlier, Adil Rashid made Lourcan Tucker his 150th ODI scalp after the Irish batsman miscued a sweep shot.

Sir Alistair CookImage source, Rex Features

England's leading Test run-scorer may be all smiles here, but there's not been too much for his Essex team-mates to smile about since a profitable first half hour of this first day at Chelmsford.

Kent were 23-3 after winning the toss and choosing to bat, but Heino Kuhn (126 not out) has led the recovery with his first first-class century for the county.

Wicketkeeper-batman Ollie Robinson also made an impressive 78 earlier.

Essex have just picked up a second bowling point as Ryan ten Doeschate has Grant Stewart trapped leg before for 37, but Kent have already gone comfortably past 300.

Yates took 74 balls for his 50, with eight boundaries.

Durham's batsmen have struggled throughout the day on a seaming pitch in Chester-le-Street and were dismissed for just 103.

Gareth Harte ended up not out on 33, but he scored three times as many as the next nearest batsman, who was Sean Dickson with 11. Only three players got into double figures with Matty Potts making 10.

There are still 22 overs to go though so plenty of chance for the Durham attack to get among the wickets as well.

Ben Coad took 4-23 for Yorkshire, while Jordan Thompson took 3-16 in his third game in first-class cricket.

Obviously coronavirus has turned the season on its head.

But with restrictions now in place to ease the workload of bowlers this could be a great opportunity for Durham seamer Chris Rushworth.

He used lockdown to get himself into immense shape and has gone vegan too.

He says he's the fittest he's been and when you consider he's normally Durham's leading bowler anyway, this short season could be right up his street.

He has passed 50 first-class wickets in a season five times now and is on a total of 494 at the moment.

The only downside for him could be the fact he featured little in the T20 Blast last season, but maybe the coaching staff will look at things differently this year given it is only a two-month campaign?

  14. Yorkshire start replypublished at 17:15 British Summer Time 1 August 2020

    Durham 103 v Yorkshire 0-0

Yorkshire's turn to bat now with 22 overs remaining in the day's play at Chester-le-Street.

A chance maybe for one of Durham's seam bowlers to grab some vital scalps....

50 for Steven Croftpublished at 17:08 British Summer Time 1 August 2020

    Lancashire 236-5 v Leicestershire

A half-century of two parts for Lancashire's Steven Croft.

First he played a supporting role for skipper Dane Vilas, who scored at a great rate towards the end of his knock of 90, before taking on the lead when debutant George Balderson came to the crease.

Croft's 50 - at the start of his 16th first-class season - came off 105 balls and the Red Rose continue to go well.

    Durham 103 v Yorkshire

    Ben CoadImage source, Getty Images

Durham's disappointing first innings comes to an end as they are dismissed for just 103 at Chester-le-Street by Yorkshire.

Ben Coad with 4-23 and Jordan Thompson with 3-16 the pick of the White Rose's bowlers.

  17. Bell latest to fall at Edgbastonpublished at 17:07 British Summer Time 1 August 2020

    Warwickshire 77-3 v Northamptonshire 142

Northants may be feeling slightly better about being skittled for 142 earlier.

They have Warwickshire 77-3 at Edgbaston, with England one-day hopeful Sam Hain out for six and former England batsman Ian Bell caught for nine.

Definitely a day for the bowlers, with 13 wickets down so far.

  18. Stewart having some fun for Kentpublished at 17:05 British Summer Time 1 August 2020

    Essex v Kent 289-5

Kent's day for sure after their early problems at Chelmsford.

Big-hitting seamer Grant Stewart's been handed a bit of a promotion up the order to number seven and he's not disappointing so far.

Three fours and six in his run-a-ball 25 to push Kent towards 300.

Heino Kuhn still unbeaten on 122.

  19. 50 runs

50 for Steven Daviespublished at 16:57 British Summer Time 1 August 2020

    Somerset 216-9 v Glamorgan

    Half-century up for Somerset's wicketkeeper-batsman Steven Davies.

Providing some handy lower-order runs after Glamorgan's bowlers enjoyed a profitable afternoon session.

Six fours in his 76-ball knock helping to the landmark.

Jack Brooks at the other end (23 not out) helping to frustrate the visitors with a useful last-wicket partnership.

    Vilas c Azad b Taylor 90 (Lancashire 227-5 v Leicestershire)

    Take a bow, Dane Vilas.

He turned on the style towards the end there but is stopped short of a century.

The Lancashire skipper's knock of 90 came off just 125 balls, but he edged Hassan Azad to slip to end his innings.
